Teenage Engineering - Record Factory PO-80

Completely unexpected and surprisingly quite taken with this. Some lovely DIY potential and comes at a time when traditional pressing is a challenging endeavour - cool!

Was this ever actually sold and supported? (I certainly never heard of it in the UK), the original price was insane ā€˜$100 for the edition with two additional cutting needles and an additional fifteen blanks’

That said, I would have been worried about getting new disks/needles from a new/small company, with TE behind this it may have legs…

I think it’s a very attractive gadget.

The toxicity of vinyl production, however, gives me pause. But maybe that new eco material will become more pervasive.

I take it back- it was (is) in the UK and 15 quid cheaper!

I have no idea what I’d use this for. But I love it anyway.

I kind of think TE is on a roll right now. Everything they put out, surprises me in one way or another but most importantly, puts a smile on my face, even if I don’t always get it.

There is literally nothing here for me to take the piss out of.

TE have lost me.

It surprised you they put out a more expensive clone of an existing product?

How long can the records be can’t find any info

Apparently

4 minutes of audio at 33rpm, or up to 3 minutes at 45rpm.

Is it known what plastic is used for the discs ? I’ve been observing that the word ā€œvinylā€ gets used generically now for any sort of plastic grooved audio disc whether it is made with PVC plastic, or another plastic that is better to cut directly rather than press and less poluting.

This very nice. Especially when considering neat little extras to include on a Bandcamp release, for example. Call me interested.

I personally do not. That’s why I said ā€œgives me pause.ā€ I would need to know before thinking seriously about it.

Call me narcissistic, but Ive always wanted to give people in my circle my music is some kind of physical form. Tapes are still not widely used, plus Im not looking to fill 90 minutes; digital is boring. This is really nice.

One little hidden detail: it’s mono only.

Ok.

Can’t wait for the Ā£499 leather carry bag.

I’m going to hold out for the field version. It’ll be exactly the same, but tracks can be 1 minute longer. Only Ā£1299.

Can’t see any inputs for the rumble pack.

Do you think this one costs more because of how much it cost them to design it all from scratch?

Happy?
