Teenage Engineering OP-Z

Yup, just saw that now.

Im not sure i can be much help for your decision as i primarily use it as a midi sequencer. I havent loaded any new sounds to my OP-Z for Well over 2 years…

It’s my favorite sequencer so that’s something :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

But overall enjoy plugging in my headphones and jam out on it from time to time…

Love the opz, flaws and all. Miracle of a device. I have the field too, I haven’t paired them yet…

If anyone else sees a deal on one (with cv module) in the EU please pm me!

Odd one: how do you reduce the volume coming out of the usb? I tried reducing individual tracks and the master volume but it is all coming out a bit too loud.

The OP-Z is fantastic, but I find I haven’t used mine much recently because getting samples into it is a pain, and I mostly use samples.

I have been using it to sequence the OP-1 though, which is a great combo. And although it seems redundant, it’s also good for sequencing the Digitone.

EDIT: with the Line Module the OP-Z is also a great utility box. Mixer, USB audio interface, wireless BT midi adapter, etc.

If you hold the second top button ( mute ) to the left. The encoders the encoder change the compressor and level of the OP-Z

The order is as follows:
Enc 1 drum track levels
Enc 2 synth tracks level
Enc 3 compressor amount
Enc 4 total level

Enc 1,2 and 4 change the level on the USB as Well

Hang on … the Line Module speaks about fx loops.

With the Line module, can I send output from the Z and say into a Chase Bliss Habit, and back into the Op-Z without creating a feedback loop? That’s my biggest gripe with the Field, that the limited outputs make it impossible for me to loop stuff live back into it without creating feedback.

But if I understand the Z correctly with the Line module, I can actually do that, here?

And like, sample the results live? I’m okay with the 6 second limit, with the Mood, that’s like an ocean of worlds anyway

You can! It’s right there in the manual:

Not sure about resampling. I haven’t tried that yet.

Totally recommend the line module though. At this point, I don’t consider the OP-Z as complete without it.

That alone suddenly makes this very attractive.

And don’t forget you can also apply the OP-Z’s own fx to incoming audio (and sequence those fx too), plus run the OP-1 through the OP-Z’s tape scratchy thing.

Yup.

Although I don’t think you can sample a sequence you are playing from the Z. Can anyone confirm if that is possible? Maybe you can sample a sound coming from OP-Z out to an fx loop and back in to the line module if triggered by a midi controller?

Okay, thanks.

So how does sampling work, if I can’t sample stuff that goes into the Line module?

Sorry if I’m being confusing.

You can sample through the line module. I don’t think you can sample on the op-z at the same time it is also playing a sequence. Does that clarify it?

You could put the OP-1 in the line module’s FX loop, record to its tape, and resample back into the z.

Actually, that’d make more sense, since I’d be finishing the track on the Field anyway.

However, that’s kind of how I use the TX-6 now, so I’m not sure the Z would resolve anything in my Field workflow, but rather be its own thing, with results possibly then travelling to the Field from time to time.

Is the OP-Z price now just $499 forever? TE has had it at that price in their store since the holiday.

:eyes: wonder why?

Probably because the used price means people are not as keen to buy a new one.

So just scored an opz for £270 wondering if I can get some good hiroshi yoshimura out of it

Wow so the opz arrived and it’s a bit too good for something so small
Yet to dig into its deeper sequencing but the sounds are great and with an iPad it’s got a lovely touchscreen screen interface
Running it through the rytm needs a level boost to get it up in the mix and it compliments the rytm really nicely especially as I have the first issue mk2 in the grey box  but the sounds palette is broad and works well with the rytm which I tend to view as separate modules in one box
Fun jamming

Or maybe a 1800€ field variant is coming?
