Some say that the TE promo video of the OP-XY cost more to film then Michael Jacksons Thriller!
I count 49 (7 x 7) OP-XYs on the wall

that does sound pretty dope actually
shaking a 900gr device for 2300 euros. questionable if I would.
Isn’t that kind of similar to the Oxi-One maybe in that regard?
One lfo still makes me shake my head more than the price. This could have been a super cool thing if they had something like the Digitone synth inside it. These presets are exactly what they are just presets basically that you can tweak out just enough to maybe have some originality. Why not just put a nice synth inside there? You can buy a beautiful sounding IOS synth for 10-20 dollars so why not just give us one. For me this is just crazy. One LFO!!! Lmao. Really stupid in my opinion. I hope they only sell a handful and have to go bankrupt. It’s what they deserve for releasing something like this, not even being the cost.
I only know the oxi-one by its name so I don’t know
lol people are really unhinged when it comes to TE
Ive not tried it but believe you can sequence other instruments / tracks to harmonically follow your chord progressions if that is kind of what this also does
One more note to the folks (especially OG-1 and OP-Z owners) griping about prices:
When a company releases updated products that effectively make their predecessors obsolete around the same price point, the resale value of what you’re holding is instantly shot to hell — when a company, like TE, releases products that absolutely overpower their predecessors but hardly make them obsolete as a matter of course, they’re also protecting the price point of machines like OP-Z far more than if they released something even within a few hundred bucks of the classic (like $999).
Now, people flooding the market with their used OP-Z’s (if they do) would bring down the price for sure, but in general I’d imagine this release will do more good for OP-Z sales and resales than harm. (And, btw, there’s no stopping TE from still releasing a “field-spec” OP-Z body successor at around $899/$999 if they believed it wouldn’t cannibalize sales of the XY — there’s clearly a wide open lane in the middle of their spectrum, and a large enough market at each step up in price (so far at least).
the flipdot animations are badass
how many lfos does a porsche have?
The $2,299 makes me angry but also makes me want it more. Maybe if I sell everything I own I can show TE who is in charge here.
Dunno, but you have to dismantle half of the rear of the car to enable them.
Firstly, I want to say I’m ridiculously invested in the discourse around this product, even though I own zero teenage engineering products. (I used to own an OP-Z but got sick of it, nothing against TE, I think they are cool)
I do wonder something, once folks see this and what it’s capable of, will they realize what they’ve been missing in the OP-Z all along? I see folks mad that these aren’t OP-1f features, when they’ve been features all along in the OP-Z and nothing has changed. I dunno, the discourse is so funny to me. Never seen this many people worked up, opinions flying like bullets
I own op-1 field, tx-6 and tp-7 and I love them even though they are a little overpriced, but this thing is a big joke and a slap in the face to consumers.
If it were original and forward thinking I’d say fine, 2300 bucks is expensive but maybe it’s worth it if you use it all the time, but this thing is funny…one LFO… I’m dying over here…
Can it play crysis?
What’s the issue?
They were sent a fairly pricey unit for free, not forced to do anything with it or make content about it (yes, definitely plenty of incentives to do so regardless, even with all of that being the case). But in your ideal world what’s the better alternative? Should content creators not be compensated (at least with the device itself?) Creators who much of the industry is relying on to be the “demo” department, part of their de facto marketing, and consumer educators/ambassadors for these products usually spend quite a bit of time even putting together a video (even for a bad video). I’m curious what your issue is with this practice, and how you’d rather things worked.
agreed man - save your money and get the grip car and field table instead
The OP-Z always felt like the spiritual successor to the initial pocket operators (as opposed to an offshoot of the op-1) and kind of the apex of that minimalist design idea. The color coding and ui in general were amazing imo (especially with no screen). This is definitely getting away from that but I think it’s the only way an updated OPZ was going to come out as the EP series is now filling that “beefed up” pocket operator space. I’m holding out for Tonic in that EP form factor.
