Teenage Engineering OP-XY

I think 42 seconds

This is roughly the same cost as my Cirklon. I don’t think it can do as much in terms of sequencing, but of course it’s a hand held audio device and Cirklon is a studio brain.

It’s very cool, and intriguing but I wasn’t expecting it to be over 2grand. I think it’s a pass for me, but maybe down the road I will revisit once the OS matures and I see what people are doing with it.

Great! I probably got to thank you I guess! I got a similar story from when they reached out to me in April saying they found out about my sound pack ‘Field Broadcast’ due to a broken OP-1 Field that was send in for repair and the sound pack was still on it and they liked the sounds very much! So thanks to the one that send in that broken OP-1 Field!

Haha true. The Deluge is quite a package though, polyphony as much as the cpu can handle, wavetable,fm, basically endless tracks,…I could continue with features for a while here.
Also I bought it for literally half the price 4 years ago :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Deluge is cool, but I wish it had more dials and more dedicated buttons. Plus in my opinion the presets kind of suck, you really need to get packs to show how amazing it can sound.

I’m not going to dig deeper into this device. I think the pricing is insane (I’m sure that it’s a great thingy though).

I just skimmed through the product page and was wondering why they use these german headlines. Is therr any story behind this? (Apologies for the dumb question and in case missed something). Just being curious.

mostly towards the move release and the similarity to the Z.

Agreed. As much as I love the Deluge, but with all the updated features you would also need an extra college degree to operate it properly. It got pretty complicated with tons of shortcuts to remember

For thisecwho need some GAS killing, check this absolutely stupid workflow when you need to adjust the velocity for a trig

TE were known for their design skill including UX.

This is laughable, especially when you’re used to Elektron sequencer.

Only one modulation (and separate envs for amp and filter).

Pocket operator punch-in effects are fun, but you can’t really taylor them to your needs so they quickly sound gimmicky.

It sounds great enough, but I remember buying an OP-1 for 500€, felt like a right price back then.

To me, the price tag here is a disgraceful marketing ploy to lure people into thinking they have a high-end product, on-par with the DSI synths, when what you got is fun, fast but in fact pretty limited, if you look at it with an analytical mind.

Add that TE has little consideration for their community and rarely deliver updates…

I’m too spoiled by Elektron for this. 1 LFO per track is not enough for me nowaydays.

But it looks very very nice.

but let’s focus on the important things….

duality Firmware for the OP1 / Input Split on separate tape Track
page/bar settings for the Z (monochrome app design) or a colored remote op-1f sequencer page :100:

I am not sure who is their target with launching this product at this psychopathic price.

People that are into music and make records?

Or People that are not into music and do not make records?

Who knows…

but I think that this instrument will be a flop

it’s a tribute to german band DAF (deutsch-amerikanische freundschaft)… their introductory video is a tribute to this video, incidentally called “liebe auf den ersten blick”:

The comment that won it for me was “Teenage Racketeering” on Ricky’s video, lol!

One very sobering thought. You can pick up an OG Elektron Rhythm, Octatrack, and Analogue Four for less this. Aside from that its very cool.

I’m sure they would’ve heard from multiple places but I hope it did help. They’re really great sounds. (and geat music you’ve made with them) For interests sake below is start of my email to their support, this was back in May. After this I lamented that you had some new packs I couldn’t fit. (I’ve since juggled things and made them fit

Excerpt from the email I sent them:

Love my Field! I need more user preset slots, subject to device space. Please! 500 is not enough. 500 seems like it should be enough, right?

I have 50-60 user snapshots / presets I’ve made already. Plus another 10-20 random ones.

TE’s own Aeoner pack is 25 sounds. So that’s 100 so far.

Someone called Rephazer has made some exceptional packs, affordable, and beautiful deep and moving sounds. Check them out! I’ve bought what I can, and I do use them. They have packs called Field Broadcast, Field Modulation, Field Cassette, Field Rhythm, Field Fantasy and Field Path. These are 50,59,50,50,50,50 sound each, respectively.

I also got a sound pack “Field Float” by Sound Garden, which is quite good. It’s 100 presets, half are sample based and half use the synth engines in useful ways. It’s pretty great.

So my OP-1 Field is full!

Anyway, congrats. Loving the video / EP your made so far, 14 minutes in but I have to stop and go to work now :frowning:

As a fashion item it seems to work pretty good and well priced. 50 shades of grey…on the edge
Influencers doing their job. All systems up and running. The Blipadi Bloopadi Genre is going strong.

I ordered at $2999, wonder if they’ll honor it.
