Ah okay, that sucks. I guess I’ve never tried to trigger these drum machines with keys via auto channel and only hooked up a keyboard to play one track chromatically on a dedicated MIDI channel. And I remember being confused at first that on OT and AR, not every key will trigger a note because of their limited range.
E0 is 20.6 hZ
do you really want it anyway
I think they’re not talking about playing back notes on the lowest octave but about triggering the default note set on Rytm tracks via an external sequencer or keyboard. Apparently, that one has to be set to the lowest octave for multimode.
Ah i see.
the xy is really the evolution that the op-z never could‘ve been.
at first I thought its somehow the same but on another platform but in person its clear within the first few sounds that it had to move to exactly this layout and iam glad its exactly like it is.
familiar with the op1 since 2012, opz, op1field and this machine it’s a common language between that TE ecosystem that just feels it’s directly connected to my inner emotional stability and dopamine ever since, the way it can handle soft melodies and earth shattering a- synchronous drums while staying in that compact zone is key for handling good and bad emotions simultaneously, deep tools to adjust my inner state ![]()
and you can‘t compare the op1 to the XY, if you know both you‘ll never ever compare them on a feature level, even tho the xy can do a lot of things, the op1f got that itch to tape things, playback and fx the hell out of things, crazy things ![]()

i’ll stay in that TE pocket and iam glad for the things I’ve wished for ![]()
busted out this tune tonight, went for some randomish chaos melodies i think they turned out interesting enough to keep. still getting unexpected step component behavior, trying to just embrace the storm
Does anybody know if you can sample mono instrument/line in to both channels? Or if not, copy/duplicate the left channel to the right channel internally? I’m hoping to this without splitting the signal or panning in the mixer. Thanks in advance. Apologies if this has been asked already.
Yes, you can choose L/R or Stereo for the input
Thanks. I did that already using a mono patch cable and it still only goes to the left, though stereo out with a stereo cable goes to both. Also, when I turn the input level all the way down it jumps up from 0 on the vu to full red. Maybe defective?
On the sampler screen, if you select Line Input and turn the first knob while holding Shift, you can choose L, R, or LR. Selecting L or R will make it a mono sample, which outputs from both channels.
Love this device but if you want something to sit on the couch and make music with headphones next to your significant other, this is not it. The keys are so damn loud and clacks when you’re losing yourself in it. In some ways it’s less portable than other devices that are way quieter and suitable for making music on headphones near other people. Can’t really imagine using this in a quiet cafe or any kind of waiting room or public transit, just going to aggravate people near you.
That said, fuck it’s so good! I love it! Damn
Yeah all the extra features (screen, freely assignable tracks, arranger with per track patterns, much more fleshed out sampling) add up to make it a much more complete and powerful device than the OP-Z. I know it has its flaws but I’m so impressed at how much they got right in such a compact package. Hoping it continues to get some nice features e.g. more experimental engines (and I’d kill for a third send but I know that’s probably not happening), but I’m happy with it as it is.
I know what you mean but in public there’s probably always some tw@t playing music on their phone out loud anyway; so you’re all good.
the design aspect behind releasing op-z, fishing all user feedback from the past (regarding op1 & Z), and putting it at a spot between their existing range. the way the op-z feels after some time with the xy is interesting because I thought its a pocket operator pro version of the xy, therefore a bit slower to operate, cycling thru the pages etc etc. bareboned but with so much to add like unity, photomatic, modules, dmx, eurorack companion, wireless midi receiver for the xy/op1f and all of that stuff.
under the hood things like much higher recording resolution per track and the way to input note data is what makes the biggest musical difference, its a sequencer with mpe capable recording of motion per track as long as you want when linking tracks.
that prolly just means your “better half” is misophonic (extremely quickly annoyed by noises)
my better half doesn’t care and is happy I’m happy because it’s such a nice device. I’m about to sell a lot of gear now because … this is it!
EMBRACE THE CLACKYNESS
it does that uplift, identity in music. 🩶
digging this tune i made last night. i wish maestro worked more like the brain transposition! really love the wavetable synth, the warp parameter turns everything into my kinda gold.
I measured my OP-XY battery time after several months again. I noted the minutes the device was turned on for as well as battery percentges by shut down. Unfortunately I can’t drain it to 0% as I need to use it live. So the battery went from 100% to 17% in about 11 hours. That means it’g go to 0% in about 13-14 hrs. Not bad but still less than the advertised battery life.
another tune! ive got a decent workflow for making chains of chords using the brain track, think this is gonna have to be how i approach chords for the most part.
Could you explain your approach for chords?
