Its a symptom. It doesnt go away till they are free from gas. Thats why it needs quarantine.
Only if you live outside UK. But regardless if add VAT onto both still a big jump regardless if VAT on or off
Thanks!
And yes, the OP-1f will be much better, if you are intending to record guitar a lot. One thing I always wish for when using the OP-1f is that I could actually play a live-instrument😅
What justifies the price point? Entirely manufactured in Sweden?
I got the XY yesterday, and so far, it’s absolutely worth it for me—I can’t seem to put it down! I’m not sure if it’s just the excitement of something new (I hope not), but time will tell. If it ends up collecting dust on my desk in a month like my DTII, Push 3, and MPC Live are doing right now, then it won’t have been worth it.
On the other hand, the DNII is also quite new, and I’ve been using it a lot. We’ll see if it holds up. So far, the Synthstrom Deluge is the only groovebox I consistently return to, and I really hope the XY will be the same.
I’ve tried a few Teenage Engineering devices in the past but never truly clicked with them. However, something feels different with the XY. It seems like they’ve finally listened to what users want and let go of some of the stubborn quirks in their workflows.
Exactly! Live recording from acoustic instruments or vocals are where it can shine. I don’t do vocals or guitar. But I do like using it’s little sequencers and recording audio in from other synths, or recording live audio from an acoustic piano or an old organ, things that aren’t midi at all. You can layer those in with your existing tracks. OP-XY isn’t meant for that workflow, quite different.
I guess these price discussions never end, but here are my 2¥ for what it’s worth:
Demand will justify the price.
How many devices out out there do what this does in the same way?
- insane battery life (if it is the same as OP-1f)
- great sequencer with live note input (meaning no external keyboard needed)
- perfect size balance in terms of portability/usability
- built-in synths/samplers
- tacticle interface
- enough tracks to make full compositions
- probably a lot more to mention, but these are the important ones to me
Which other device has all of these?
MichaalHell & pidgeo above discussed the released PDF manual v1.0.9 being ‘baked’ and unsearchable.
Correct! That sucks. I don’t have an interest at this point in picking up an OP-XY for myself, but I threw the Mac Studio at the task and linked below is a fully searchable OCR’d version.
Enjoy!
This is fucking awesome! Congratulations on your new opxy! My mpc live ii is also collecting dust. Now I’m considering selling it to put towards this after reading your initial experiences! I’m also very curious about the deluge and DTII, too! So much good shit out right now.
The only thing I’m absolutely pissed about is TE didn’t send @SonWu an opxy on day one. You make the best TE content by far. I’m rioting.
Thanks, I guess I’ll be patient and hope for the best
Except the battery life there are some which at least offer a few of those features
but for 2300@ i would expect exceptional sound quality. And it might have a reason you don’t mention this… at least i have not heard a demo yet with sounds that would make me buy it.
which ones would you suggest?
Oh - was asking because I am heading to Stockholm next week. Was just thinking maybe I can get one while I’m in there and get a tax return on my way back home.
Better build quality and a screen are something people have been asking for since the OP-Z came out.
deluge, elektron, Gotharman, akai for example i think there are some more
but that is not the point for me. I just think it sounds nothing special or better said: not exciting.
But that’s just my taste …peace
none of them has a battery as far as I know, right?
also none of them seem as portable.
“none of them has a battery as far as I know, right?”
that’s why i wrote: “Except the battery life there are some which at least offer a few of those features”
Yeah I don’t think the synth engines are exactly the reason to grab one, like I would assume they are far less deep than any of the digitone 2 engines… the multisample though does make it potentially pair really well with a deep modular or something. The FX loop mean you can involve it with analog signal processing or whatever wacky fx you want. I imagine this + something like the cascadia could make a really great pair. That will also empty your bank account.
The OP-XY’s sound quality is as good as it gets for compact hardware. dual Blackfin CPU, stereo signal path, and 24-voice polyphony. the fidelity is top tier and scientifically near flawless. Any complaints about quality are either subjective or user error. This thing is engineered for pro level sound.
Sorry, missed that!
But I would say the battery and portability are an important distinguishing feature. Which is why there is a space for this product.
