Oh no here we go again… I was just stopped gasing the ableton move…
I don´t think, that it is an op-z v2. It is called xy, not z or 1. So, it is part of the op family, but nothing mentioned the op-z.
I think, that it is an analog reel to reel tape machine, digital controlled and with all the modern features (bluetooth, midi, maybe some kind of digital controlled effects? …). Probably, I´m wrong.
From what I can see in the report it:
-will have a rechargeable battery
-USB-c connection
-charging cable that is 75cm long. Field charging cable is, if I remember correctly, shorter. The standard black TE USB-c to USB-c are 75cm.
-in the test report they are mentioning turntable on some of the pictures, might be a general term thought.
-OP-XY name confirmed pointing on OPz/op1 related product rather than PO or something
My guess is a new OP-z outside of the Field series. Jesper also confirmed that there will an updated OP-z in a workshop I attended in Superbooth 2023.
I Think it’s linked with Ableton. (German company)
This would be my guess, too.
Redesigned hardware, but still mostly plastic to keep the costs down and distinguish it from the field line. More or less the same architecture as the op-z, simple sound engines, but full stereo support, increased storage space, small screen, focus on sequencing. As with the og op-1 and it’s field update, the original concept of the op-z was already pretty great, but could benefit from lots of fine-tuning to make it a better experience overall.
Might be that is more of a personal wishlist than a guess
Plus, I think TE is going to include at least one ridiculous feature no company thought of putting into a music making device yet that’s going to cause the usual polarizing controversy associated with pretty much every TE release.
Honestly I would be more than happy with a OPZ software update that allows better sample management with the iPhone. Having access to a bigger library somehow.
I’m always struggling to decide what samples to keep on it and what not.
Oh. And definitely threshold sampling. I can’t believe they still haven’t added that by now
I think that whatever it is it will not be convenient
I like the idea of a XY pad/realtime controller for the OP-1, with extra features and maybe scenes.
I just saw on reddit someone looked up how XY is pronounced and it’s Z ai… what if this means they’ll release an OP-Z that is AI powered?
then it probably won’t work very well
Why… whatever do you mean?
I’m hoping it makes a decent cup of tea, something the company’s other machines seem to have failed to achieve.
On my scavenger hunt for more clues I found that @te-david (I think?) has posted on Instagram as well.
are those 4 usb c connections at the bottom?
Hopefully it’s micro usb!
Looks like new OP-Lab
Are there two 2GB 2Gb(250MB) RAM modules and a Blackfin chip? It also looks like there’s eMMC storage.
That was my first thought as well!
Maybe it’s the field hub. A supercharged USB host and hub for connecting OP-1 field, OP-Z, TX-6, TP-7, etc. It would solve a problem with the field line. All devices have USB-C with audio/midi in and out, but only one port. So you can’t connect them all together without a lot of extra cabling.
