The good thing though is that the battery lasts for a very long time so it’s not that much of an issue.
But yeah, I fully recommend it. Don’t know what that subharmonic thing is about, I don’t have that issue. It sounds great across the frequency range in my opinion and the little gimmicks it has are fun. I use mine 100% as just a Bluetooth speaker.
Many thanks to all of you for the helpful responses! I think I will order an ob-4 in the coming days from thomann. If it has the warbling issue, I’m just going to return it within the 30 day return period.
The ob-4 arrived today and I’ve just been sitting in front of it and listening to some of my favorite music for hours. I’m actually somewhat floored at just how good it sounds, especially given it’s small size.
I bought on sale late last year and use it for monitoring mixes and as backup radio when power out and in garage when I’m working on stuff. It’s fun tool and I also record to it.
hmm yes, I was afraid of this, one of the downsides of the product if you use it as BLE speaker imo. you end up forgetting and having to charge which probably wastes cycles
Does any one know how to play the tape from the start of recording.
Meaning after I finish jamming and want to listen back from the start of the tape. I know that I can scroll the tape back but after a 2 hour jam it’s a lot of scrolling to get back to start.
Got to play with an OB-4 over the weekend while visiting a friend and did not expect how much fun we’d have with it.
First of all, it sounds great. It gets plenty loud (we used it both indoors and outdoors) and pumps out an impressive amount of bass for how small it is. On that note, my friend and I were both surprised by how small it turned out to be once we saw it in-person, but that ends up being an advantage if you intend to carry it around as we did.
Once we got the hang of the controls, we absolutely lost ourselves in the joy of grabbing loops, using “Slide” to remix the song on the fly, practicing with the beat repeater to create pseudo buildups and then dropping back into the main song, pitching the audio down and then grabbing a loop of that, and of course indulging in the extraterrestrial beauty of ambient mode (we had many spirited discussions about what combination of effects were being used to create the ambient wash; we could hear some some pitch shifting, slap-back delay, shimmer reverb, filtered noise with an LFO on the cutoff, and probably some magic fairy dust or something to bring it all together).
Anyway, just wanted to share some words of praise for the OB-4. It’s an excellent portable Bluetooth speaker if that’s all you’re looking for, but once you get your hands on the looping/remixing effects it becomes a very fun instrument in its own right. You’ll need to mic it up if you want to capture any of your creations on it, but that’s not such a bad proposition since the speakers sound so good. I’m not in a position to get one of these for myself right now but I sure want to.
Been reading through the thread and learned quite a bit!
But since I’m two days away from getting mine, I thought I’d ask if there was any (new) tips and tricks to be shared.
Even tho my wife bought the OB-4 for the ambient features (she’s about to give birth to our first child and intend to nap the heck out of the OB-4 features), I intended to buy it for creative purposes in the first place.
I own an OP1 Field, a cheap LoFi recorder, guitars and home studio stuff (I’m a sound engineering and session guitarist). The OB-4 would serve as a main monitor system for the OP1 Field (mostly creating, not really mixing).
If anyone has some more uses, outside-of-the-box ideas and tips/tricks, I’m all ears! Same goes for any DOs and DON’Ts!
sorry in advance for cross posting: does anyone know if there is a list of features/bugfixes for the latest FW update 1.5.10? i can’t seem to find any FW info for the OB-4 anywhere in fact.
Turn on the ob-4 and launch the application on your phone. The app will tell you that there is a new update available, press it and press play on the ob-4
Already answered correctly elsewhere.
But no, it doesn’t.
I would add that the OB-4 sounds great but not fantastic, that it’s not ergonomic by any means and a bit of an unstable speaker (its form factor and weight distribution makes it a weird speaker for me).
Bluetooth is reliable, battery life is average and it still lacks any way to export your loops.
But it won’t cut off sound, you won’t experience any audible latency when using the line in.
in my experience it sounds forking fantastic given its size. i know jazz might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but put on Everything I Love recording by Wolfgang Multhspiel trio and crank it. when scott coley bass solo comes on, close your eyes and tell me it doesnt sound like hes standing in front of you.
i have not noticed it ever turning off or muting when not being actively fed audio signal but my experience with that particular angle is not very vast
