Teenage Engineering EP-Series [ The User Thread ]

At the moment, it seems the only way is to create your own editor like in this video. It’s pretty simple, you just add a JSON with the settings into the WAV file header. I’m sure someone will make an editor and release it eventually.

You have to use any audio editor for your samples which can put loop start and end points to it. The easiest I found is this one, and also free Wavosaur app (Windows only) could do it, as well as the Ocenaudio app. But the first one does it automatically.

The author of the video tells about publishing that app soon (https://youtu.be/lILGsL-X--w?t=1638). Will wait…

EP-40 early adopter user blues.

Time signatures: says per pattern in the guide. but changing a group pattern in the scene still changes time sig of all currently loaded patterns.
Is it more accurate to say you can have different time sigs per scene.
Unless i’ve missed something, you can’t have group based polymeter?

It might be nice to REC + SHIFT and - +. to change length in steps adhering to timing setting. variable step lengths between group patterns would be sweet.

Just to let everyone know I’m working on a new native app for both MacOS and Windows called EP-PatchStudio. I’ve already figured out how the mutltisamples are built for the EP-40 and I’m now knee deep reverse engineering the TE MIDI SYSEX protocol to figure out how to connect directly to the EP devices.

The plan is for the app to allow users to create and edit mutlisamples and normal samples (with loops, etc.) and to send them direct to the device - this will allow users to manage the EP devices fully offline! Also to easily take full system or project backups and restore backups, etc. I’ve a lot more features planned.

I plan to release the app over the coming weeks and will be looking for some beta testers soon. I plan to release this as a paid app to help cover the costs of all the AI tools I’m using to help build this. At the moment I’m literally burning through €€€ using various tools and the one time cost should be fairly low.

I’m pretty excited about this. Anyone that’s used my free OP-PatchStudio knows that I have a focus on detail and I want to ensure EP-PatchStudio surpasses this!

To get polymeter per group, you need to use a workaround such as setting the time signature to 1/4.

Am I correct in my assumption that all 3 EP devices, including my newly acquired Riddim, have the same physical dimensions thus allowing proper use and fit of the standard KOII Deck Saver?

I have a couple nice Elektrons and fancy MPC’s and other gear, but this widdle bahbah is the first bit o’ kit I’ve wanted to tuck in and keep safe.

I was exploring the original factory projects and noticed that a lot of the pads in groups b and c are supertones that play in different keys (without entering key mode).

I can’t really figure out how to set this up. Is there a way to “bind” a pad to a specific key? The premade projects don’t seem to use pitch to create this as far as I can tell.

i think its under the sound edit menu under MID(midi) settings. i think the right knob changes the note

That was it. Thanks! Probably a very basic feature I’ve overlooked all this time

This is good info to know. I hadn’t considered that midi settings would be used for the internal synths. This thread has been great for picking up little tidbits of info.

would be happy to test!

$80 for a decksaver

$50 for an Analog Cases case

$30 for an AC style knockoff

Oh what ever shall I do?

(Slather the paper case it came in with clear packing tape or pink duct tape and call it a day?)

I could spill a beer on my $1000 fancy Elektron and be ok after a healthy rage fest. But I fear if anything happens to my little $300 toy sampler I would never recover.

Never recover.

I already mentioned this earlier (only $35):

Worked perfectly for my prev KO2, works for my current Riddim. You chose the color there as well.

has this one been discussed or possible?;

a sound menu option to take a pad out of fader modulation and/or fx send.

i see this as potentially big one to create 4 extra dry layers of sound from each group.
Current workflow is find sounds, arrange, add fader movement.
pattern sounds good.
at this point i may only have a few pads loaded in each group, definitely not 12.
and there’s load of pads free.
i’d like to be able to add new layers of sound unmodulated and option to bypass the FX straight to main (sp404mk2 bus routing style).
you could un route sounds out of and back into the fader modulation/fx.
which exposes more layers of variation.

The only exception is the Mod (the vibrato effect). If you record using the mod wheel on an external keyboard, you can apply it per pad rather than per group.

As for the idea of something like the SP-404MK2’s bus routing, I’m not too keen on making the EP’s UI and UX more complex in a Roland-style direction.

I’ve got a pretty good collection of samples on my device now, but I don’t want to overfill the device to leave room for project specific stuff. I was just thinking maybe I should save a backup of this library to be a template for my hip hop projects and then put together a different collection of samples for other types of projects.

Is anyone using backup/restore to make sample library templates? I haven’t tried restoring from backup yet, is it pretty straight forward?

Thanks,i have no kb to test. Does the mod wheel cc apply to the active fader choice + pad in a group?
So we set pad channel, and then select fader function, then hold record and move mod wheel on that channel? Seems too simple!?
Per pad really opens things up!
