No, the modulation wheel doesn’t control the active fader. It only controls the same type of vibrato effect that Fader+Enter applies to the group, but on individual pads.

ok thanks for clarifying. is vibrato speed linked to bpm?
was hoping to find an parameter to change vibrato speed.

i hear you, but if this was an additional option in the sound menu (dry on/off) it shouldn’t really get in the way/convolute things, unless user explicitly sets.

It looks like the vibrato speed is fixed.

I has been thinking the same thing after doing the initial clearing of samples I didn’t want, and adding my own.

The process is not overly fast but just did the whole thing to test it out for the gang. I saved my backup locally of 449 samples using roughly 3/4 of the 128mb (MacBook Air M1 base model), took about 10 agonising minutes. Had to watch a whole Riddim video on YouTube while I waited.

Then loaded up the factory fresh sounds/projects again. Roughly the same time maybe a bit quicker with no issues. Then loaded up my saved backup, maybe 6-8 minutes, and it’s all back. My samples, my initial patterns etc.

So while it would be annoying to change every time you use it, I will definitely make a couple different main files like youre suggesting for different flavours and to keep some space open. Great idea!

Thanks for that! Much appreciated. I did a lot of sampling directly on the machine, so I definitely want to preserve all that effort.

While I usually hate all the work that goes into putting together a sample collection, I’m actually excited to make an alternate template of sounds since this machine sounds so damn good and is so fun to use. I love the form factor and battery life.

I’m really spoiled by Roland’s samplers acting as audio interfaces for sampling directly from the computer over USB, but, other than that, this thing is so quick to work with. I even dug an ancient Korg Plugkey I had collecting dust in a drawer to sample from my iPhone to the EP.

I’ve only owned Pocket Operators from TE before, and I wasn’t all that into them because of the build quality, but this thing has made me a TE fan. I’m now dreaming they put the Tonic into one of these cases. That could be one of the greatest drum machines ever.

40-sec multisamples possible using the speed up trick. Looking forward to seeing more multisamples for the EP.

He also figured out how to get entire drum kits into one multisample file, so drums can take up only one sample slot.

how much space you think you’re sample library is taking up right about now on the device?

I’ve got a fairly good amount of stuff on there and it’s around 70Mb. I figure that leaves space for sampling project specific stuff.

The nice thing about having the synths onboard is that you have some basic bass and lead sounds that don’t take up space in your sample library.

While what I have on now is a pretty good selection for most projects, it would be nice to save an alternate bank of samples as a template for other genres. Maybe a template focused more on classic drum machines and stuff for electronic projects.

128mb is way too much space. So many samples. I might have to pickup that OG that I always wanted as wall art just so I don’t have to carry around so many heavy samples.

I’ve added this feature to the new native desktop app I’m building too, EP-PatchStudio. You’ll be able to take any sample, including multisamples you can create in the app and pitch them up by one octave and then when transferred to the Riddim pitch the sample back down.

I’ve loads of other cool features in there too :grin:.

How (in terms of the sound) does playing a sped up sample at half speed compare to resaving the original sample as a file with half the sample rate?

Nice hear! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

I hate to be the guy with feature requests, but one thing that annoys me with the EP is that there’s no easy way to keep your sounds grouped together. It would be nice if there was a way to swap sample slots in the sample manager.

Like if you have some 808 drum sounds in slots 100, 101, and 102. It would be great later down the line to be able to put a new one you add into slot 103, rather than slot 157 or whatever the next free slot is, if that makes sense. I imagine moving the whole library forward by one would be very time intensive, even just a swap 103 and 157 would be an improvement I think.

When converting a sample to half its original sampling rate, a low-pass filter is applied during the conversion, so the resulting sound quality depends on the software used for the conversion. In most cases, sampling the audio at double speed and then playing it back at half speed results in a brighter sound.

We can dicuss features, etc. on the seperate thread so as not to clutter up this one.

But just discussing the EP and the sample slots, the only issue with doing something like this is any other project that reference the existing set of files will then be out by one, if that makes sense.

i got you.

TE confirmed currently if you latch solo (holding group pad(s) ) the XY knobs are “currently” out of action.

this news about multisample kits is absolutely good.
this machines distance between ideas and reality is really fast.
agree with other comments that the tonic engine (or any synthesis!) in this form would be a riot.

Thanks. Makes total sense.

Anyway, it’s only a very small annoyance that can be solved by better sample planning on my part or not caring.

DT got a Q, iyo do you think the riddim sample library is just as useful outside of the riddim within other samplers or did they do something to make them strictly viable on the riddim?

Yeah, most of it will be fine to use. There are a handful of multisamples that won’t be that useful on others, but that’s a very small number.

I haven’t examined the backup file to see how the library is stored though (projects and samples are bundled into one file), so not sure if it’s as simple as extracting it to get to the folders full of WAV files, but it may be. There is also an option to download individual samples to your computer one at a time from the web app, but that would take forever.

Backup is .ppak extension, which is just a zip. So take a full backup and rename from .ppak to .zip, then extract and all samples from the device will be in the sounds folder.
