Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II

Nice! I have the OG OP1. Going to try this asap. I always hated how hit or miss recording to the tape felt but this clears that up nicely.

I also have a little Lego creation as a fader knob!

You either work at a daycare or a tech firm (those tend to be half daycare, half college dorm).

Mine just shipped. Now I got to go find some legos.

Things people say after buying Teenage Engineering products.

Would it be ok to leave the cap off, then get one later that fits better? Or is it too fragile to use without a cap?

I believe TE will be working furiously for a Second Batch Run with a solid fader and no sticky issues. Its kinda inevitable seeing how popular it is. But first they must offload the first batch or recall all unsold units.

its not fragile in itself, the cap just makes it easier to grab

Mine just arrived. And everything seems fine, for now. Speaker working, slider is good (was very gentle installing the cap) and no stuck keys. But it’s only been an hour.

Seems very immediate to start making songs on it - but I’m gonna need the cuckoo walk through to really understand it all.

I didn’t put my cap on but my fader was already not functioning included the speaker too. It is not a cap issue. It is something else.

More info for anyone that ordered direct in the UK - I’ve received the import fees from UPS and they have charged ~Ā£4.50 for VAT and Ā£12 for ā€œhandling feesā€ meaning it ended up being ~Ā£15 more expensive to buy direct from TE versus a retailer in the UK. Makes ordering direct before they showed up on Juno this week even more disappointing

Ordered from Juno soon as I got their email alert and got my dispatched email just now so should have it tomorrow

Plus Juno gave me a £13 discount

Heard back from TE about my broken speaker and they basically just said to talk to the retailer I bought it from :man_shrugging: Was cautiously hoping maybe there would be some kind of secret fix for it somehow but seems not. Guess I have to exchange it and who knows how long that will take.

few weeks!.. :astonished: Glad I managed a pre-order through my vendor that received stock just few days ago and run out almost immediately… next batch arrival due 12 Jan 2024!

seems not all out enough. too much money spent on a flashy photograph for the packaging, and not enough on packaging that will actually keep the units safe. …and now they get to spend more money for people to return units and have them replaced or repaired.

kinda par for the course for TE, unfortunately. they’re like Apple: always best to wait out the new products until the early adopters work through the stuff they missed.

For me at least when i tried to put the fader cap on it just didn’t want to go on and i didn’t feel comfortable applying more pressure than i already was. It felt like i might damage fader component if i went harder.

Ehhh. As much as this slider situation sucks the only other product that had a notable amount QC issues was the OP-Z. Everything else has had a normal amount of issues and the people that have issues are obviously going to talk about them more than people who haven’t.

I’ve had an OP-1 for 10 years without issues. My Field didn’t have issues. Even the two OP-Zs I own haven’t had issues. We really don’t know the numbers here and even if it is high, that’s not really the standard for them.

With 9 pocket operators, two OP-1s, Op-Z, EP11, the three field recording devices, and the Ob-4, midi hub and smart speakers we’re looking at minimally 19 products and two of them have had what appears to be wide spread issues.

I don’t think that’s enough to say that they have a record for issues personally. That narrative that I keep seeing doesn’t really add it.

We can criticize them for having less than ideal customer support, however.

Agree. Nor Apple for that matter.

to be fair, I was an early adopter of the OP-1. and had no issues with it in 12 years of ownership. but many others were not so lucky with later revisions of it. there were several issues with the modular units. both in what shipped and then in delivering on deadlines for the backordered stuff. I had multiple issues with Pocket Operators as well (all three that I purchased) and didn’t seem alone when I Googled it at the time. I moved on shortly after though, so I don’t know if there’s still issues.

I’m not saying they only make crap or that they can’t release a stable product. not at all. just that sometimes they goof up details on initial release.
