Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II

Yup, I am still hyped about the device, but mostly use it as a midi sequencer or pad controller for other gear.

Nope, I’m at the stage where I check back here ever so often when I remember… but mostly just wait til I get some kind of notification the update has finally dropped. I can’t spare the time to keep checking things ā€˜just in case’. Also, like any kind of OS update, I like to wait a few days or weeks (depending how impatient I am for a new feature lol) to see if there’s a mass bricking of units immediately afterwards.

anyone else also get double or more than double tempo when try sync the ko2 via midi cable? tried send clock sync with syntakt and a arturia keystep 37 and if i put those on 120 it become chaos on ko2 with maby 240 bpm or more ^^

It does happen at times, depending on various variables (sync mode on the EP or the other gear, etc).
Most of the time, it’s a matter of configuring everything again, from scratch

worked now when tried setup again
is it possible to make ko2 recieve transport also? so can press play on the elektron and the ko2 seqencer starts with same tempo

edit: found answer myself, use midi in instead of sync in on ko2 and it works to receive sync and transport…

Beyond inspired by all of these tracks! Hearing all of the possibilities with these machines.

I’m convinced the two can make for the perfect setup—I think I’m just too dumb to figure it out. My dream is to use the ep133 to sequence the op1f’s internal drums and record those to tape in time.

Or maybe I should just record/sample the op1f’s audio straight into the ep133. Still trying to figure out which one will give me the most mileage and flexibility.

thanks friend! glad they are sparking some ideas for ya.

i actually havent thought about sequencing the op-1f from the ep133, that could potentially save me the minor headache of using two cables…will have to explore

I am sending mine back. I like the design and the form factor but having some issues with the work flow. Maybe I just don’t want to learn something new at this point…

Starting to get to grips and really enjoy the EP-133. It sounds amazing, the punch in FX are fun, sequencing is a breeze compared to my SP404mk2 and it feels like a bargain for the price (and considering what other TE stuff is going for!). Battery life is good, it looks/feels cool and more sturdy than I expected. I’ll need to pick up a decksaver for travel but with that I think it would work well. It’s a great device.

For me 3 things would really elevate it, I’d love it if they could be updated in firmware (and 1 more thing that won’t).

  1. Muting individual pads for performance - this is something I use a lot on other boxes and feels like an obvious feature to add that shouldn’t be to hard.

  2. Resampling-an obvious on, but it would make a huge difference here with the way the FX and the punch in FX work if I could resample sounds.

  3. Audio over USB. Most other TE stuff has this. The OP1 is 10 years old and can do it. It makes a massive difference for me in the SP404mk2 being able to connect to my Mac via usb and sample to and from logic. It’s a great workflow and I’d love this to work in the same way. Would be a game changer for me.

The 4) would be expanded sample memory or at least extended sample time to 60 seconds, but I get that is a limitation they have built in with 64mb and I can live with it, esp if the above was fixed!!

Fingers crossed I guess, but even as it is it’s a great tool - we’re pretty spoilt to have stuff like this for less than Ā£300…

ive been experimenting with how i like to use them together too. i either

A) sample synth one shots from the op-1f, then do everything else on the ep133

B) sample some chords from the op-1f to the ep133, arrange a whole beat without leads, record the whole beat onto the op-1f tape, then add lead synths in the other three tracks

C) make a perc loop on the ep133, midi sync the two, use that loop as the foundation, record it to tape and do the rest on the op-1f (most cumbersome route so far)

D) totally independent!

im enjoying switching up the methods, keeping it feeling fresh. i think now that i have a couple sound source choices, a few sampler choices, and a few master recording options, now the fun is just picking a couple tools and seeing what comes out of their individual workflows

For method C, would you mind sharing the settings you have on both settings to make this possible? I feel like this would get me closer to my desired results. Would greatly appreciate if you have the time.

ill have to check when i have them in front of me, i was going back and forth changing settings and confusing myself a bunch lol.

if i had to guess tho, i likely had everything set to OFF in the op-1f midi settings except for CLOCK, which is set to OUT. then on the ep133, i think all you need to do is go to the settings > MIDI > set to IN.

then i have audio from the ep133 going into the op-1f. the sequencer on the ep133 starts when you press play on the op-1f, so you can get those perfect loops by holding record on the op-1f before pressing play

You’re the best! Elektronauts is my only source of sanity and joy on the internet.

I know they’ve said there’s still more room in the tank for more improvements as they continue to update the machine, but I wonder if they purposely put 64MB on the face of the KO to silence people asking for more than 64. I’d love it too, but 64 feels carved in stone. I dunno, it should be easy to code…

Does anyone know if sample reverse is on the roadmap?
Thanks

there is no road map :ghost:

It’s more of a lucid dream

i made this on the ep133 the other day while coolin in a park, i sampled synths from the op-1f then did the rest on the ep133 and recorded it up at home on the sp404.

The end of June is coming… @te-david, any surprises for a ā€œhungry crowdā€ ? ))

They’re too busy with the field suite features and integration updates, KOII need to get in line
