Just released the Synthdawg Notebook for the KOII. Up next …… the MKII Digitakt.
The fader started outputting random values, but applying F100L-L25C fixed the problem and improved the fader’s feel.
property managers arent renewing leases for some secret reason (i assume the building is being sold) so i spent today walking around the neighborhood looking for the lowkey rental advertisements. didnt have any luck but i got my eyes set on a few in-renovation units that look like they may be opening up soon.
came home and made this tune on the ep133. sampled some chords and one shots off the reface cs for the first time in a hot minute, i do love these sounds and how quickly they crop up. i definitely come across similar ones but im starting to explore the LFO more.
Instant buy from me - THANKS!!
Atm its style over substance and good for 2 bar instagram videos…You would think 8 months after release they would add something to the feature list? If this OS/feature list was in any other manufacturers device - it would have bombed.
Its like a new wave of instruments to show off on instagram - instaments
Im sure this thing will get better but TE are taking sweet time in getting around to it.
i have made over 100 songs on mine that are well longer than 2 bars. i think you should try using it more
too many people worried about a feature list/“roadmap” (the fact that the expectation is set at “New features are absolutely necessary” is silly at minimum, entitled and lazy at maximum when the narrative is “this machine just sucks”) ((this is almost definitely a byproduct of the crypto/gamestop/kickstarter/tech startup brain rot of the past five years where people think they are “investors” in things)).
i think when it comes to running into limitations and boundaries, the flow chart starts with two possible points:
A. What can I do about this
B. What should they do about this
One is challenging yourself to further your own creativity, the other is challenging someone elses creative work and saying they should change it to make it better for you. I think its incredibly obvious which is more productive for an artist in the long run.
in fact, i have loved how little discussion there has been on this machine in general after the first wave of hype. i think its because the machine is pretty much feature complete for the audience it was likely designed for. theres nothing to talk about when its this fun making music.
Low End Theory worthy
Very well put and I couldn’t agree more!
Per Pad Filter and some sort of pattern chaining, like on the pocket operator, is all I want. The filter, I don’t know if it’s possible, but pattern chaining should be an relatively easy thing to implement
at this point the stubborn artist in me hopes they abandon it and never talk about it again
kinda kidding but would also be kinda punk
Can’t help but agree with you. I’ve never owned a product from release before, and I guess the mention of 1 processor core only currently being used and more features coming has made me a little expectant, thinking; “oh wait where’s the [insert feature here], ah it’s OK, it’s coming.” In my case, ADSLR sample loop points…
I still love it though, and really enjoy having something to make music away from a screen.
yes, i’ll say that was a boneheaded move on their part to mention it. feels like a poorly made marketing move made in the moment that has only served to fill peoples minds with ideas of what could be, that then sour and spoil.
i rarely (never) find myself looking for a feature, but i often find myself looking at the features i dont use (automating things like attack and release with the fader) and think “how could i use that”
we’re living in a great era, anytime a dev is finished with the developing of any product that still has room to grow they can always open source it if their intentions were never about limitations.
Open source firmware would be great, but given TEs track record, I would guess there to be a roadmap already planned to release any future updates around new products as integration features with a possible yearly update to boost sales. Speculation of course.
well I certainly hope T.E. isn’t done with the ko yet, I’m just thinking out lout how nice it would be if it became the standard that when devs are done they let the people have it… like synthstrom, that kind of attitude is a win win for everyone but yeah too soon for the kO I hope
My favorite thing about the ep-133 is the sound it has a sound profile that I really like.
i would say nearly anything that has ever been a “win win” situation to begin with very quickly becomes a “wait a minute why are they winning too”
i personally do not want the standard set at “make abandonware and leave it to the rest of the world to finish it” i would much rather maintain a standard of “intentional and directed design to create a Finished Idea”
yes, hyperbolic, but the world operates on hyperbole. crowdsourcing is fun for people who like to tinker but the stuff they make aint that useful to most people who arent them imo
we’re talking about after the fact/ after a dev is not developing for a product anymore…not unlike jjos, or what synthstrom is doing although on the later they are still developing and just opening up to others to improve upon along with their guidance, and what makes this kind of thing a win win for everyone is that nobody has to update, or people can choose to update, and when you take it to the max sometimes we get completely alternative firmwares like on the soma labs cosmos… not open sourced but I love how the dev put out multiple firmwares for different use cases if we should choose to use them…
but regarding what you’re talking about I agree, intentional and directed design is a great thing…
i agree those are two really great examples of it working, however, and im speaking without any knowledge, those are the only two examples ive heard of where its been really good. and the jjos creator is rumored to have been an akai person, right?
i just havent seen the track record that would predict a world where the expectation is devs should choose to open source
it’s a small sliver of a difference but still distinct at least in how I look at it, more like devs are finished with it and then allow others to take advantage of it being open sourced… semantics but feels different to me… I definitely want devs to finish what they are doing first…
if pioneer had allowed this I’d probably have two toraiz 16’s
