Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II

Sales tax. In Germany it’s €294 without VAT.

No way to buy anything in Germany without paying the sales tax.

No P-Lock on this device. The sequencer is pretty basic. best you can do is record slider moves on one parameter.

I don’t know about others but I have dropouts and polyphony limitations I don’t understand. I have chope a break, and play a basic boom bap, (kick/snare/kick/kick/snare) and want to layer hats on top. Well… hats will play only on step that is not already used. Tried to change the sound settings to KEYS, nothing changed. Tried to layer a hat from another sample, no way. The only workaround is to move the hats to another group, and then it will work.
So it seems that when you CHOP a sample, then, the whole group where that sample ihas been chopped becomes monophonic, whatever you do. Bummer.

hey, yes, the plan is to support importing “sustain loops” from the .wav header in the ep sample tool

so basically if they’re present, holding down the key would stay in the loop-section until released. no ETA for this but its on many peoples wish-list

@te-david Any updates regarding if re-sampling is indeed not possible with the hardware? :santa::christmas_tree:

re-sampling is totally doable with the hardware. its on our long-term list, it needs a careful design and we don’t want to rush it. the focus right now is polish and stability based on user-feedback

hi! when chopping a single sample, each pad (or slice) will become part of a mute-group by default. usually this is what you want when sampling music, but you’re right, not when sampling individual drum-sounds… but there is a quick way to change it post chopping so that you re-enable polyphony for those pads, see:

EP–133 guide: modes (#8.2.6-mute-group)

Of course there is, if you’re a musician (profession) you can claim the VAT back. In the US 45 states have sales tax. OTOH it’s on average half of what it is in Europe (by looking at them).

Still paying the VAT when you buy it though. I have a business and know how it works. The retail price for the thing here is 349€, no idea why one would want to distort that!

you are comparing a € 350 device with a € 2000 device- of course there must be some advantages for nearly 7 times the price…

check the guide for turning off mute groups. This is like a choke on other drum machines. I had the same issue. I just turn all of the mute groups off.

Yes, I was responding to someone who asked how the Ep-133 could be so cheap compared to the OP-1F while it has things the Op-1F doesn’t (like being sequencer based and having stereo chorus and delay)

All I wanted to point out is they are completely different devices and cherry picking a few things off the spec sheet does not tell the full story at all.

Thanks, you are right. I actually found that after posting here. What’s misleading is that I did set my sample to KEYS, so defaulting to putting all slices in the same mute group kind of went against my actions.
Still not sure wether I’m going to keep this little thing. Too many things seem to behave strangely, or counterintuitively. For instance I still can’t understand how the FX are supposed to work. Can I filter a sample AND then add compression? are the FX applied to just one group, or all four groups? I think the manual is not very well done. And I come with 30 years experience with music gear… I love My PO33 (I have 2 of them), but this is something else completely. And misses many good things the PO33 has, e.g. P-Locks per step just to mention one major gripe I have.

THANKS, David! That’s the best news for me in 2023! Will pray it would be done ASAP! :+1:

I would like to formally apologize to all the resample frogs.

Rejoice. Follow your dreams. Anything is possible.

The chopped kits being set to monophonic is the same with the MPC as well.

If suggestions are being polled for future feature updates, I’ll throw my hat in the ring.

It’s been mentioned but recording automation for punch in effects per pad/pattern would make this device a complete stand out and fit in perfectly as the bigger version of the po-33. Anything beyond that would be a bonus IMO.
