Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II

I do not have any rechargeable AAA batteries or a charger for them. However, I have several power banks and mobile chargers. This also works for any other device without a battery compartment (like the OG Polyend tracker).

It is a passive MIDI splitter, it takes power from the MIDI signal. Probably EP doesn’t have enough power to feed the splitter.
You need a sort of MIDI amplifier between the EP and the Quadra, to boost the signal, you may also use another MIDI device (synth, drum machine, etc) connect EP to midi in and quadra to midi out

Got mine now and was happy that the fader worked before and after put the knob on, but then realised the speaker dont work…

Damn. Sorry to hear that. Hopefully the quick tightening screws fix mentioned above works out for you. I’m the quick to return type, especially with brand new things that don’t work but I’m also a heavy KO2 guy now. So, I’d probably hang on to it until I could have it replaced quickly.

The speaker is trash but surprisingly very useful for me. As is the mic.

Is it only the back of the unit screws that need tightened?

Just as an update.

My wife - who ordered the first EP-133 - was kind enough to go out her ways and find a second one to replace the first (with its broken fader).
So here she goes again today. With a second unit. And…….yeup, you guessed it! A broken fader too!

TE still hasn’t answered any claim about any RMA.

(I just asked my wife not to go for a third unit - I can live with the SP404mk2 and no half-baked EP-133).

But what a let down. Talk about a hype rollercoaster!

Still cool to see people gelling with their units. And hear what great tunes come out of it.

Cheers!

I’m not sure, sorry. @schoolbabyboy mentioned it up thread and a few users reported that it worked. Perhaps they’ll chime in soon. It’s up there :point_up_2: somewhere but that’s a lot of scrolling for sure. This thread is bonkers.

I feel your pain… mine’s headed back to Perfect Circuit today…

I followed the instructions in this video and it did the trick:

You need to remove the backplate and then tighten the three or four screws around the speaker.

Got it. The Guide makes it sound like you can just apply swing like any other drum machine. Strange it needs to be recorded in. Just a global swing would be nice.

sorry to hear that

I probably will get mine around Christmas so after 3 weeks of waiting for a delivery from TE it will be a big disappointment if my unit arrives broken :frowning:

hopefully it takes so long because there’s a second batch with fixed coming :crossed_fingers: @te-david

Well, I have to thank each and everyone of you guys.
This kind of informative forum is what makes it easy to cope with this kind of issues.

I prefer to see the glass half full, here.
This big mishap is on TE’s behalf. Cost me some gas, some postage, some hours, some mails…not worth my time.
If I want a toy, I’ll buy the BlipBox. Built like a tank!
And that’s not just the EP-133. It’s every product.
So yeah. Not a good look by any means. And more than 4000€ into their ecosystem, I’ll entitle me to say that they are just not reliable enough as of now. Just an opinion, tho.

Jokes aside, the software bugs are really the last nail in the lego coffin of this release for me.
I’ll stick to the op1f and the few pocket operators I have. And will probably refrain from TE stuff for a while.
Way too much problems with their brand right now.

Anyhoo, thanks for the kind words. It eases the pain quite a bit.
And it’s still cool to hear that, in the middle of the worst release I’ve witnessed in a while, users are patient and creative enough.
You guys deserve a paycheck from TE anyday of the year!

Cheers!

I’ve had these rechargeable AAA’s for over 5 years and they still hold a charge just fine. Can get a 4 pack with charger for around $25.
Great companion for the EP-133 KOii.

I went for the Amazon knock offs called powerowl pro. I just finished one full charge after almost 2 weeks of daily evening use. Probably not 20 hours total but definitely at least 10-12 hours.

8x pack is £8 I think.

I have a boatload of the Powerowl Pros. Very nice alternative to the Eneloops I used to buy for much cheaper.

I tried the Powerowls. Bought an 8 pack and 4 of them stopped taking a charge after a couple uses.

hey guys do you think its safe to load rechargable batteries inside the 133, while it is turned off? I have rechargable AAAs with usb c input. I plan to place them into the battery compartment with the usb facing up and when they are empty, recharge.

Oh hell yeah that is great to know! Thanks

encountered a new game breaking bug today. entire group is perma muted on a project that was in progress. there is no mute applied though, it just won’t output audio. applies to all scenes. basically lost an entire group on the project and can’t recover it. it’s not related to fader, group level, sample amp. it’s just bugged. ep-133 keeps finding new creative ways to break every day. ltsi.

if i add a new sample to any pad on the group it will not output audio. there is no way to get audio from any pad on the group.

not looking for troubleshooting. want to put it out there for anyone else that encounters.

I had this happen too. No apparent reason for it. I was able to do a delete on the group and reload and it worked again. Quite a lot of unexpected behavior so far. Is there an official place to report bugs to TE??
