Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II

Wow - Really?

@te-david

you would think that in 2023 this should be a given

it has always been a given

IĀ“m sure this is just a matter of firmwareupdate…

I’m sure it is

But seems like the biggest small thing they could have left out

Reversing a sample is like a bread and butter feature of sampling

yes, and iĀ“m pretty happy with the sample engine on my (t)rusty op-1…

and Midi through USB not just Sync through it

The SP404mk2 is indeed similar. If I didn’t own an SP404mk2 already, and if the form factor (portability, slim design, looks) weren’t a huge factor, I’d pick the SP404mk2 over this easily for the added functionality and better IO.

That said, the EP-133 KO2 is a lot of fun, so pretty and its portability and battery life alone are most certainly worth the 340€ price tag to me.

I would gladly throw 2k+ at TE for a high-end MPC-ish sampler. That said, love the EP-133!

I’m pretty sure there already is Midi through USB?

i dunno about anyone else but ive started to see my 133 start to chug when building up more and more involved scenes. nothing show stopping, but its made me question just how much more power they are capable of squeezing out of it. i wouldnt hold my breath for the more intensive requested features.

its just a bigger pocket operator so think it was never meant to be a fully featured sampler like mpc or octatrack

ive been having similar issues, to combat it ive stopped using oneshot mode and left them in key mode so i can ā€œplayā€ it in live. havent had any problems with it changing on me that way

there is no ā€˜instant-pad-mute’ on the EP-133, main reasoning behind this is to avoid scenarios where you’re like, "why is this thing silent… so the way/workaround to do it would be to us amp (level) which is per pad.
select pad (you can do this with shift + pad) -> [sound] -> x-knob -> dial down amp to 0

about filter per sample, doable but would be cpu-bound, i.e. would eat voices. ps. the cpu is an ARM M4+ running at 150MHz.

sorry I couldn’t reply earlier, this happened yesterday…

From the start my EP133 was full of samples 0-600. Now after putting in 5-10 samples there is only kicks for example from 1-26, less bases etc. Is it me writing over something (probably) or could it be the infamous hard drive issue?

Actually you stand correct! It does receive and send through MIDI via USB alleluja! …still don’t know why it did not show it yesterday

Yeah.

A flagship machine, that focuses on this workflow. An internal battery that lasts like op-1. A screen like the op-1. CPU that is able to handle software updates. Not to sure why you would not want that.

The K.O II was not made like this. I don’t know why people seem to think TE is just gonna pump this full of OS updates and Features and just raise the price of it when they do. These are limited in their cpu, the cpu can’t even handle sampling while the sequencer is running. 1 global fx, etc. Resampling was the biggest beta tester request and they are still trying to see if the can implement it on the CPU they used.

I love this machine. And will continue using it. End of the day it’s $299 and operates like its $299. I don’t expect it to be $299 and operate like $999. I bought it for what it is and does now and not what I think TE is going to update it. I understand the price point/ materials used and how that will end up limiting them from adding features as small as they may be. I am fine with all of this with this device of $299.

I am sure a lot of people feel like me after using this machine. The workflow is butter. Just clicks. Super easy to build, navigate and find samples and just keep it moving.

If this workflow was presented in a flagship model that had room to grow…

Not sure why you would’t want that.

Anyone knows what Punch Fx n. 6 is?

I think it temporarily turns up the send level for all groups to the currently selected master fx.

Thanks, got it now

If it’s doable, maybe just do it :slight_smile:
And if it’s OFF => 0 CPU.

I don’t think people will slap filters on every pad. But it’s very useful when mashing up samples so frequencies don’t clash.

Everytime a groovebox appears (and we’re thankful that a plethora have appeared recently), I keep looking back at my MPC 1000 and my ex MPC 500 and imagine how they can cram all that power in those CPUs decades ago, and we’re not able nowadays.
