Seeing all notes/drums at once is pretty cool indeed.
Which is a really cool thing about trackers as well, now that I think about it.

Yep, this is why I like it! Fairly easy to delete, nudge, edit notes once played in. In the video, you see him ā€œpaintā€ a little melody onto the sequencer - nifty way to get ideas flowing. And yeah being able to see all the trigs and quickly edit them for kit/drum editing is pretty great.

I also don’t use the arranger. It’s very linear - do this and then do that. More powerful than simple pattern chaining but no loops/jumps like the OT, everything is very explicit. It’s not it’s fault I don’t use it - I just like more free form music

ā€œAt onceā€ is where it gets challenging, if you have more than 8 notes then you gotta scroll. That can be painful and why I mentioned bass lines and leads. I usually just split the melody lines and chords out into a separate clips just so I dont have to scroll all the way up and down as much.

Basically, you cant vertically compress/zoom those higher or lower notes, only scroll. You can compress/zoom horizontally to increase and decrease note resolution or just scroll.

Still amazed there isn’t an arp latch feature on the deluge! I use it all the time to sequence other instruments and am surprised this isn’t possible.

Can Deluge work as a MIDI controller, especially in the same manner like Push or Launchpad, just to launch Ableton session view clips? I haven’t seen any remote script built for it so I am not sure if this is entirely possible

Deluge does not send any midi data per default (at all). You can configure some buttons and knobs to send midi data, but it will be a very rudimentary solution compared to a launchpad (no bi-directional communication to have pad lights match the ableton clips status).

That’s a shame :frowning: I wish there was an option to sync with DAW and change options on the fly between MIDI controller/in box processing like in Akai Force. Maybe in further firmware updates!

The best for you would be to buy a Push, Launchpad, or whatever midi controller that achieves what you want
Deluge already offers a vast amount of possibilities, as an all-in-one box and midi controller for synth/grooveboxes/samplers/…
Making it an external controller is pointless as other physical interfaces do it very well. It would not bring anything that would keep the Deluge special and unique.
Wavetable synth, for example, a feature awaited for some times now, is something more interesting as it keeps this machine standalone.

But I can totally understand wanting it to be midi controller, as each of these little pads cry to be unique and versatile

I do have Push 2 but I wanted to get rid of it to save some space on my desk and use Deluge as hybrid Clip Launcher/All-in-one box setup. AKAI Force does it very well but it’s quite bulky comparing with form factor of Deluge.

The option for now is to find the right balance - I will either move fully to Deluge and control my external gear from there, or will replace Deluge with Push for clip launching duties and treat the Deluge as additional sound source only (or sell it, ugh!)

Oh and one more workaround that just came to my mind - I can also sequence some gear with Deluge, and trigger scenes in Ableton by mapping Deluge scene button launcher to Ableton scene. So each time I trigger scene change in Deluge, it will also trigger the mapped scene in Ableton. I hope that make sense. By doing this I can have best of both worlds.

I don’t know exactly how Ableton scenes work, but if these scenes you create and launch are kind of ā€œstaticā€ loops (I mean without any slowly evolving changes while they repeat), you could export them to .wav and use them in the Deluge.

Remember that loops can be manage in multiple ways in Deluge : as audio clips, but also as parts of a kit

If your goal is to manage some hardware synths, and at the same time launch only a few Ableton clips, this method could work for you.

Maybe I m wrong and didn’t understand your needs. If it is, don’t hesitate to share your setup and an example of how you wanna use it, I’ll try to help

This would be pretty much my first sampler though … ? Don’t have a sample collection … maybe this shouldn’t be my first sample-playing device … hmm

(I don’t think the past few days messing about on an SP505 count for much).

Right. Screen’s gonna be an issue, I reckon

Deluge users - is there a way to follow playhead in track edit mode? I know you can enable this in arranger with cross screen button, but is there a way to enable it when editing track so the screen will change automatically to playhead position instead of me turning the > knob manually?

If anyone was worrying about the lack of information on firmware updates and any other news, here’s the most recent post from one of the developers:

ā€œI’ve actually been refraining from sharing much stuff online as a way to slow down sales.ā€ LOL

You got to love these guys and their company for being so ā€˜just your average Joe’

Well I donā€˜t expect, but I would say its printed there.

For the ones interested… I just released a new sound pack for the Deluge inspired by early romplers featuring samples of the Teenage Engineering OP-1, OP-Z, Roland MC-101, D-05, JX-03, JU-06, JP-08 and a Muse Receptor. With over 500 wav/samples resampled, looped and optimized one by one (total size of the Sound Pack is below 300 megabytes) for that ā€˜vintage rompler’ sound. Thanks for checking it out
