Thanks for the support! Much appreciated

@rephazer really enjoying playing with the sample pack (especially the rhodes!!).

I appreciate how you put in loop points when applicable and how the presets have the EQs dialed into relevant/important frequencies :pray:t4:

One of my favorite things to do is to play your presets (sometimes more than one mapped to the keys) into a mixer and then send that audio to the Matriarch for filter & delay, often adding noise and oscillators from the Matriarch to make an analog/sample monster sound  :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Here’s a few examples of me playing with that idea recently

Great work on these! They sound awesome. I don’t have these presets but I’m seriously considering picking them up after listening to just a few of the tracks on your BC.

That’s great! I am glad you are enjoying these sounds and they inspired you to write some great tunes.

Thanks a lot for featuring some of these sounds

Thanks y’all! I didn’t write any of those songs but sure had fun making the jams

@rephazer the Rhodes patch really has given me a lot of inspiration :pray:t4:  (although one of the samples has a weird double attack, notes G1-Bb1)

@porkloin they’re definitely worth a try! The Deluge synth engine is pretty decent but I’ve been enjoying it as a rompler even more. The lack of mod wheel support always knocks me off my groove when patching a synth sound. Using it as a rompler helps me accept its shortcomings more I suppose
I love that in my setup I can play the Deluge while using the mod wheel to change filter, etc on the Matriarch ~ more things to adjust while playing, the more dynamic the experience for me

Okay, I’ll check that one out and see if I can fix that when I have some more time on my hands.
Meanwhile if it’s really bothering you could try to remove that specific layer by selecting that sample/layer in the patch and delete it. The Deluge will auto-map/extend the range of the sample below/above to fill the gap

I know it’s kind of silly to ask this on an Elektron forum, but I would love to hear the opinion of other Elektron and Deluge users: is it crazy to sell a Digitakt and Digitone to get a Deluge?

Lately I’ve been spending much more time jamming on the couch and I’d love to have a one-in-all solution that would allow me to write full tracks. I love both the DT and DN but there’s a lot of cables involved to work with them together, so it’s kinda cumbersome.

What do you guys miss the most from the elektron workflow in your deluge workflow?

Not at all, it won’t replace them, but can do some of what they do but not all, it can do things they can’t do too though.

You might miss the p-lock workflow and the ability to have lots of patterns in memory at the same time, you will probably enjoy the grid use which is very nice. The fx on Elektron are a bit better and a tad more editable IMHO, but Deluge fx are ok.

The FM is not as in depth as Digitone (itself not that in depth) but it can make all the typical simpler FM sounds.

It handles track lengths and polymeters quite well, timing seems pretty precise too.

As a portable unit it is hard to beat, for me it lacks a bit of finesse in some areas, and can be a bit illogical for certain functions encoder/button combos and some inconsistencies.

But it is undoubtedly possible to make nice music with it, I often think of selling mine as I do not use it enough as I have a lot of other sequencers, but it does have some really great features, and if I focussed more on using it as my main sequencer I’d probably be more used to its quirks.

It is a great instrument, and the battery power and portability are very good.

Thank you very much for the feedback! Ideally I would prefer to keep all of them for a short time, just to make sure I don’t regret it.

One of the things I’m most worried about is the lack of a proper screen on the Deluge, especially coming from the DN/DT combo. For example, how easy is it to adjust amp and filter envelopes on the Deluge? I’m guessing it’s based on the values and there’s no visual representation of the envelopes, right?

When adjusting them from the shortcuts you can see the value on the display, when adjusting them from an assigned knob you have the little LEDs bar graphs giving a rough indication.

On the subject of the envelopes they could use a little refinement I think, they have a strange spread and limited range, I can’t remember the specifics because I rarely use the synth engines, but maybe someone else will chime in, all I know is that I found them a bit lacking.

Overall the lack of a proper screen/display does not hinder too much, most of the time, although for things like names it does a bit.

I think if you keep the DT and DN that would be a safe bet, then if Deluge does not suit you no big loss.

I agree with @darenager

The Deluge does have ā€˜p-locks’ and ā€˜conditionals’ but perhaps not as easy implemented compared to the Elektrons. It isn’t ā€˜limited’ by the well known 64 steps and while the Synth/FM doesn’t come near the capabilities and great sound of the Digitone it does feature polyphonic multi-sample playing which is a huge gain compared to the Digitakt for example.

In my opinion it’s the best standalone portable groovebox available. It feels like an instrument compared to for example the MPC Live which always reminds me of a tablet in a case with some pads/knobs/connections, but that’s just a personal thing I guess…

If possible keep the Digitone and Digitakt, because the workflow and sound of the two does have something magical, but if you are looking for a standalone instrument groovebox which you can take with you everywhere I highly recommend the Deluge

Thanks! Yeah, from what I’ve been reading the Deluge does tick all the boxes as a standalone groovebox for my needs. I think it can at least replace my Digitakt, but ideally I’ll try to keep them both at least for a while so I can make a more informed decision.

Now I just need to find a used one at a decent price! Oh, and I will definitely try your soundpack for the Deluge once I get my hands on one, it sounds great!

Depending on your country, buying new may be cheaper or near the same price. In US buying new I paid no tax and with shipping final price was $1060 this summer, arrived in a week. Recent reverb used prices with tax shipping and fees end up pretty close.

I already checked, but in Portugal I would have to pay taxes of 23% over the purchase value, it’s quite a lot…

Portugal: good for crypto, not for Deluge

ahahah!

Ian Jorgensen just posted in Farcebook that they are looking to start beta testing for the next firmware in early December. Woot!
If you are interested in being a Beta, there is a sign up link on the synthstrom forums.

what are the new features gonna be?

Wavetables
MPE
Variable track lengths and non-euclidean rhythms.

These are the main ones off the top of my head

I hope there’s a latch arp feature and random pattern playback mode in the sequence!
