Yes, really nice effort. Works in browsers supporting webmidi. They might make a native ios app (safari doesn’t support webmidi). Love the logo
I really miss my Deluge, really want one again but oh man the financial strain is kind of too much for me to spend that amount as something who’s just a hobbyist. I can only say good things about the Deluge.
I’ve found I’m using far less of my other gear now I have a Deluge. I think I might end up selling more things than what I sold to get it in the first place.
Anybody visited Deluge OpenSource Dev team in Superbooth? I have not seen any reports. Are we still on 1.2 Chopin, how far are we from stable 1.3 release?
Just released 1.2.1 today with an important bug fix (website isn’t updated yet but release is available on our Github)
1.3 is still technically an unofficial alpha. We’re probably still months away from a stable 1.3 release. It’s a slow time for the dev team. Life is keeping us busy :). There’s a lot of outstanding issues we need time to comb through.
All that said, feel free to give 1.3 a try. I use it personally and find it very stable and there’s a lot of improvements in there!
Great work Sean! I follow your progress and discussions on Discord
Don’t forget about Deluge Commander for folder organization and moving samples
You don’t need to do it that way, if I’m understanding your goal correctly. You send midi to the external machine on one track, then you have a second track set as the audio input monitor.
You don’t write any notes in that second track at all, and you can apply all the standard effects to it.
The process for setting up that second track is the most unintuitive thing on the entire machine, imho.
They actually implemented a way in the firmware to send an external audio source into a synth clip’s oscillator line input with pitch shifting disabled.
And with 1.3, a synth clip can also send midi.
So effectively now they have a workflow that does this:
- synth clip sends midi notes out to external piano
- external piano sends audio into the same synth clip’s oscillator and it doesn’t get further pitch shifted at all
- now you can use the synth clip’s oscillators, envelopes, lfo’s etc and mod matrix to trigger and manipulate the sound of your external audio source all from 1 clip
Note: this isn’t in the firmware yet, but it was proved out by changing one line of code in the firmware. We’ll implement it as a new oscillator input source option (eg input left/right/stereo unpitched). It will become part of the 1.4 firmware
WOW. That is amazing. my mind is reeling at the possibilities.
The community firmware team is incredible.
Firmware 1.3 alpha is looking awesome. I’m excited to try out the new FX, crazy arp options, and horizontal menus but it seems like the extra LFOs are going to be a big deal for patch designers
@_l Two extra envelopes too!
The community firmware preset pack from 1.2 preset competition should be released soon also and they sound unbelievably good. Can’t imagine what presets we’ll get from the 1.3 competition!
1.3 stunning sound design demo from @darwiniandude
Thanks for sharing…
If anyone listens make sure you listen to the second half - long notes really growl brought in with ENV3
Also this is an unlisted video since it’s not a feature in the firmware currently, but this is a quick test of what Sean referred to above with using the sound of an external piano as an oscillator. (But really, use any external kb/synth as an osc) The evelopes/filter effects are all Deluge. Hope that makes sense.
EDIT: also just recorded from phone mic/speakers, so doesn’t sound great:
Quick test of unpitched external oscillator
That sounds fantastic @darwiniandude (both the patch and the demo) ! I would pay money for a patch bank of that quality. It sounds like a totally different synth.
I am very looking forward to the 1.2 patch contest winners. With the new LFOs and Envelopes the 1.3 contest can’t come soon enough
Looking so good! 1.3 is going to be massive. Great work dev team!
Excellent news! Thanks for the heads up and big respect to the developers.
Will do the update to 1.2.1 and will give the 1.3 a try for sure.
Just out of interest I had borrowed friends OPXY over the weekend and I am still amazed how fantastic the Deluge sounds. there is no comparison to XY. The output levels with so much headroom on the Deluge it’s shocking. XY just sounds very toy-ish in comparison. Deluge was ahead of its time and thanks to open source and developers it still does advancing current releases of other makers. Amazing.
Community Firmware 1.2.1
The 1.2.1 Community Firmware release is now live and available for download on the Deluge Community website:
This is a bug fix release and fixes a notable “audio clicking” bug that many have reported.
This was a bug that happened while:
- recording audio
- scrolling / zooming in song row view
- scrolling / zooming in the audio waveform renderer
There are no other changes in this release.
Enjoy
Can we revisit this … 6 years later ? I am curious how is Deluge standing in the MIDI Sequencer department in comparison with T1 / OXI ? A lot has been done with the open Community Firmware.
