There are a few things about it that could do with tweaking, also stuff I consider needs fixing urgently and I’ve been asking the devs for a while but not been fixed.
I trust they’ll get it done though, they have a good track record with the Pyramid.
One area for improvement is external MIDI control of the Hapax itself. You have a Matrix for setting up control of 4 parameters per track. It’s not enough! We need proper MIDI control of every parameter.
Also stuff like, no global swing. So I have to put a swing module on every track and waste a precious Matrix slot to do it.
Still, overall it’s the best sequencer on the market at the moment. I’ve got half an eye on the Relic though
I own both. How is deluge buggy with cv sequencing? I have not dived into it yet.
I think hapax has equally the same amount of UI shortcuts, just different. Let me know if you have specific questions. I was about to make a hapax bootcamp series but things came up! (deluge public stable coming soon!)
I love Hapax for sequencing…way more than Deluge…it’s made specifically for it. Hapax is my fav sequencer ever. Deluge was fun for me as a standalone box.
I don’t even know if its possible, but i really want to be able to export my song as stems to SD card, instead of having to mute and record each track separately in DAW or resample
basically it’s emulation of the Monome… imho the Deluge is the perfect form factor for this, as opposed to using a launchpad + some other device/computer etc…
anyways all my devices are restricted to the Elektron Forum, but maybe I’ll sneak out one of these days and check out the discord… i just hate going outside
I love the Deluge way more than anything else. Reason is simple. It removed my GAS. I just fits me for what i want to do with my music and the all-round genres i create (dnb, house, techno, dance, pop). All-in-one box/daw and also portable as bonus. More bonus? Open source, easy to order spare parts and replace. And yea, i tried almost all of the portable gear out there. I almost gave up making music on the go. The deluge was my last try.
Ps: i never tried hapax (looks neat!), but i did had oxi one. All nice and cool, but in the end i wanted more than only sequencing. MOOAARRR.
More than only sequencing is my issue too. I love the Pyramid and Hapax and Oxi but just dont have the money for specialized pieces and really do like sounds inside sequencers…its tough.
Deluge is awesome, a good side pair is an iPad and oxi one. I wouldn’t say a complete replacement, since deluge is less screen/touch intensive and is all in one unit. But an oxi one paired with AUM is fantastic as well.
Do you mean different from the monome grid mode we have? Like you want monome features added to the deluge so it’s standalone without needing a monome?
most folks use an launchpad and a computer as an alternative… I would love the Deluge to facilitate this , it’s the perfect formfactor… all self contained, no need for a computer.
What do you mean need a computer? Wouldn’t deluge + norns be standalone? Deluge can already communicate with Norns via a grid mode.
I think adding all the open source scripts that are found in Norns to the deluge itself would not be feasible. Those scripts are designed for the norns and its hardware.
Depends a lot on what and how you want to sequence. My primary usage is songs (or backing tracks) and found Hapax a pain there, much more than the song mode on Pyramid, which I consider its weak point. Arranger on the Deluge is so much nicer for that sort of thing. No doubt Hapax has far more connectivity and MIDI tricks up its sleeve because that’s kinda all it does. I didn’t get along with it very well, just the form factor was bulky and plasticy. Sold my Hapax and haven’t missed it a single bit, kept the Pyramid but haven’t actually touched it ever since getting Deluge…
I’m not talking about adding scripts for norns, nor using norns at all… I’m talking about emulating the monome mlr with the Deluge… maybe some form of follow actions is all that’s needed?
I don’t have any monome gear, but isn’t that what the monome grid mode on the deluge that was added with the community firmware does? Bi-directional communication with norns scripts
I take your word for it, but I don’t have a norns or monome…
what I’m asking is for self contained emulation of the monome mlr workflow on the deluge without the need for another piece of gear containing samples…
here’s an ipad app that is a good example of the kind of thing I wish was available on the deluge.
