Synthstrom Audible Deluge [inc. Open Source development]

Try the following:

  1. Collect the samples multisampled by MPC in a folder and copy it to the SD card. (One folder per instrument)

  2. Create new synth (Shift + Synth button), browse sample (Shift + Browse Pad)

  3. Point to the folder in the file browser, press and hold the Select Knob, and execute the MULTI SAMPLES.

  4. Press the BACK button to complete. You can save the patch by pressing Save + Synth button.

Thank you, this is what I needed to know. This is a massive game changer for me

What does this mean, exactly? In your opinion, what did the Deluge used to sound like? And why doesn’t it sound like that anymore?

As someone who had the Dellie for a while (three times), and eventually gave up on it because it just got too crowded in there with just a few samples and a synth or two, I’m curious to know what’s happened here since last.

I’d return to the Deluge if it somehow got some more oxygen into its slightly tight audio room.

@circuitghost IMO the deluge sounds warmer and more punchy. Not metallic and cold as some people used to describe the Deluge’s sound.

So yes I would say the community firmware has breathed more life, oxygen as you put it, into the Deluge.

As for why, I explained some of the reasons above but here they are again:

Yeah have to agree the community firmware being something special. At the moment my urge to sell the deluge seems to be sated. The whole sticky shift button is one of the best features easily, ability to navigate parameters easily. Sound does seem much better as well, and things are becoming fun to play around with it,

Yeah the newest stable is surely on its way!!! I need to check out sticky shift, you leave it enabled all the time?

What a nice surprise, it’s actually thanks to you’re videos that I’m currently refreshing myself on the synths. I found it easier to just leave sticky shift on to quickly access parameters. However, a quick press on the shift button its switches itself off. it sounds like a small addition, but it’s quickly becoming a big game changer in doing things on the Deluge.

Again, man thanks Ron for the vids.

The new firmware possibilities are splendid.

Is there a manual in the works?

Hoping for some video tutorials by Ron or RKST myself, doing god’s work for idiots like me who have a hard time reading.

i swear a WIP manual by synthdawg was pinned somewhere on the discord but cant find it now  They also talked about a wiki manual for easier updating but nothing much resulted yet.

Hey I’m planning to making videos but since the feature list is so massive it’s just too much at this point to go through work my standard content. I’m going to go over workflows i came up with. The first one I’m working on is just me reading the change list lol

Also being a variety channel I’ve got a lot of other gear i want to cover, so i had to push aside some other tutorial series i was working on to get to this. Anyways hopefully I’ll have a nice amount of videos on the new firmware… If i have energy lol

I understand all the work you put into your vids. I wasn’t expecting anything or anything soon since you have a bucket load of work to do in your other vids, and plus to keep up with the algotherim and all. But appreciate the reply, and again sorry if my message sounded like I was demanding something.

Lol no I’m not keeping up with any algorithm at all. Your message didn’t sound demanding at all lol i am not high strung

Just wanted to update you where I’m at. My videos are going to be deluge update because the public release is coming up. So I’ll be making as many as i can based on it.

Pretty cool, been doing lots of multsamples via the MPC autosampler, definitely brings new life to the sounds for on the Deluge.

In case you didn’t know, there are loads of multisamples on the Deluge forum.

Worth checking out if you aint seen them yet!

Thanks dude, I think I have some of them but really sampling the VSTs I regularly use if I was on the DAW. Even though I have a Live 2, the Deluge is more lightweight and portable to make beats and make stuff on.

Has anyone used both the Deluge and Hapax?
I’m thinking of trading my Deluge for a Hapax.
I just want a sequencer and the Deluge’s buggy CV sequencing and easily forgotten UI makes me think a dedicated sequencer like Hapax will work better for me.

I own both and have used both extensively as a main midi sequencer. Please note I don’t sequence CV (not directly from the Hapax or Deluge anyway), so I’m only comparing MIDI sequencing.

Leaving aside all the Deluge’s other capabilities, and comparing just as a sequencer, the Hapax is far better.

Instrument definitions, CC LFO’s, Automation, Arpeggiator, MIDI FX, more outs, twin screens, to name just a few of the areas where the Hapax excels.

The Deluge is great but seriously lacking as a main sequencing brain. I didn’t really understand how much it lacked until I got the Hapax. Coming back to older songs can be annoying on the Deluge. On the Hapax, it just works.

There are some things that the Deluge does better. Navigation in general (to edit notes) is easier on the Deluge. Switching over, I felt like the Hapax was a bit clunky, however it just takes time to adjust.

The Hapax isn’t perfect. It’s a lot better now than it was at the start thanks to firmware updates. Updates don’t seem to come that quickly, but Squarp do seem dedicated to steadily improving it. Also, the stuff they add is well thought out and always easy to integrate, thanks to the twin screens etc.

In contrast, for example, the community stuff added to the Deluge is certainly amazing, however there’s no doubt it’s getting overcrowded with features, outgrowing the interface etc.

There’s one way I use my Hapax which amazes me. I have all my synths hooked up to it etc. I can go to any synth, press record (footswitch connected to Hapax), play the keys, turn knobs etc. Everything is just recorded and immediately loops and is available for tweaking, all the automation correctly labelled on the screen every time you touch a control etc. Such an easy way to get stuff flowing.

Hope this helps.

I love my Deluge, as a single-box writing tool it’s the best. But the Hapax has taken over as my main sequencer. It just does it better!

Thanks very much for your reply!
I think I will try the Hapax, it sounds like exactly what I need :slightly_smiling_face:
As you say, there are obviously other things that the Deluge does that the Hapax doesn’t, but it sounds like for a sequencer centrepiece the Hapax is the way to go
