this is really great… i listen to it fairly often
Thanks a bunch! Really appreciate that.
Managed to make a bunch of weird coughing noises, thought it was kind of cool
Insane! Love it
Still haven’t decided about this box. Did this track while thinking lol.
Something along the lines of Belgian New Beat or so-called Anhalt EBM… The Klinik, Absolute Body Control, Tragic Error, etc.

Posted back in 2022 but the links have changed.
did you program this all by hand??
Yeah! It took forever and burned me out for a little while!
Most complicated chain reaction of dominoes I’ve ever set up.
Covering songs like this with song mode really helps me learn a lot, but this one was pushing it.
Mind speaking about how you cover them? Do you get guitar tabs, sheet music, just do everything by ear?
I’m trying to improve my song writing on the syn (elektron devices) in general and this seems like a good way to learn!
Yes
I’m doing it all by ear. I can’t read music! I know the notes now and I’m practicing keys more than ever, but it’s all memory and picking it out.
When I can, I’ll have the Syntakt connected as an interface with my iPad so I can listen to the original and play in or sequence the notes, but while working on Rydeen here I had several crashes probably related to the iPad going to sleep and resuming so often while connected. Syntakt was at a nearly completely full project too, so that may have had something to do with it.
I listen to the original many many times to learn the structure and how I want to arrange it in song mode while keeping the limitations in mind. Song mode does get quick with practice and you can copy/paste parts of it just like you can while editing any other part of this synth.
TLDR: I think covering a song you like really is a great way to practice.
You’ll learn and come up with many little tricks to get it to do what you want.
Having a lot of prior familiarity with a tune helps in spades.
I’ve made a whole EP that’s just made with Syntakt at its core:
It might be a bit cheating, since I used MIDI controllers for performance macros and Ableton FX. There’s also a Digitone in the beginning and the end. I still think it fits the spirit of this thread, as the Syntakt and what it can do is the heart of this work. And I’ve basically tried how far I can get with using only ST and blowing it up by using OB. There’s more info about the setup and process on the thread, in case anyone is interested.
