Syntakt Science Lab #1: SY Swarm - CY Alloy

I couldn’t figure out how to get a decent snare out of this machine, mind sharing some tips? Your drum sounds are all good on this

Here’s my shot at a track for swarm. This is definitely my least used syntakt machine.

Thanks, here’s a screen from the record but I guess the filter is where it’s at. Probably a HPF with lots of reso. I think you could probably get some more 808-like meat out of it aswell, couldn’t be arsed to try long enough. Will check properly when I’m home and see if I can send over the pattern

If you press the corresponding page Button, in this case SYN, you see the value of each parameter. It can be useful when posting a picture.

Agree 100%! So many great contributions and surprises!

Its a snapshot from a video from when I recorded the jam initially, didn’t take a picture today

Gonna try to knock out a lot of replies, sorry for splitting to 2 posts but there’s a limit on mentions

@PentalagusMusic Alloy track: I always love those varying / multi tap sounding delay effects. Like being spun around in a current.
Swarm track: kicks and percussion are great and the whole thing is a banger, I wanted it to go on longer!

@Tchu Swarm track: the dynamics and mixing are big. Easy to forget how nice the oscillators sound when they are sustained.
Alloy track: getting all these sounds out of cy_alloy requires serious wizardry. Like your swarm track, this one sounds huge. Did you have the analog drive maxed out?

@m0ld Swarm track: good to know that swarm can do 303 bass too. Just wish it was a bit longer :slightly_smiling_face:

@Kingvikar welcome into the forum, glad to have you!
Alloy track: glitchy and tanked up, sounds really tight and focused. Makes me want to move (in a good way). I just love the percussion sequencing, I’ve never been very good at those glitchy sounds.
Swarm track: wild, weird, and fun

@aurelcast Swarm track: so trancey, feels like the start of a 15 minute track haha. Had to listen two or three times instead. Stereo effects sound great.
Alloy track: you may have struggled with getting a kick but you got a really good brushy snare and a nice sounding tom. I’ll be studying both :yum:

@zaven Alloy track: bangin. Feels like it could be the intro to a crazy tune. Might need to study that crunchy “clap” too.

@agentapple Alloy track: there are so many interesting things in here that I don’t know what to comment on. Highlight was the half-tonal ringing sounds. Gonna be studying the whole project

@Oxenholme Alloy track: so atmospheric. Would never otherwise guess this was Syntakt. Also - only 3 tracks is crazy. I’m hearing what sounds like 50 resonant filter taps simultaneously :joy: Love everything about it.
Bonus alloy: unbelievable kicks. You better believe I’m taking notes
Swarm track: perfectly tuned / detuned melodic parts. Unsurprisingly this bangs :ok_hand:

@elxsound Alloy track: mind blowing. Kicks and bass are perfect. I don’t understand any part of how you did this. I’m very thankful you uploaded the project, I’ll be poring over it.
Swarm tracks: chunky kick indeed. Gonna try the square LFO on pitch thing. The industrial track bass modulations are awesome.

@mishpult Swarm track: the transients on that huge bass sound are perfect.:heart: excellent sound
Alloy track: love how this builds up, kicks are phenomenal. Listened to this on repeat for a while. Once again, having a hard time getting my head around these sounds coming from that machine.
Swarm track 2: this could be an advertisement for SY_SWARM. Big classic sound

@merindol Swarm track: so glad you gave us the full track. Sounds lovely

@ex Alloy track: love the way this sounds, crazy low ends. Wanted it to go on for longer.

Overall, such excellent work in here already. I feel like I’m learning so much.
I will be uploading my own tracks once I have them - I started alloy already. I think I need more studying though :yum:

Don’t think I’ve ever used CY ALLOY before, except perhaps via a preset.

Was really a challenge to build something worth sharing, and it’s severely lacking low end. Also, I usually rely on sending MIDI modulation from the ST’s friends - healthy to have to take a different approach.

Inspired as ever by the capabilities of the ST in others’ hands.

Quick percussive SY SWARM attempt.

A second Swarm entry.
7 Swarm Machines.

Science Labs : Swarm (the subject) but also Stereo Image and Polyphony.

I wanted to express the Polyphonic and beautiful sides of the Syntakt through the Swarm Machines.

Another go at alloy, really enjoying the kick sounds coming out of the machine. I have definitely underestimated it.

Nice kicks and melodies. Also wanted to say welcome to the forum! If not for @Sip I would have missed that you just joined.

That was lovely
Don’t know why but made me think of being nice and cosy inside a mountain hut during a snowstorm at night, at Christmas time.

This is swarm.

Lots of seriously good submissions in here but personally I’d rather not push Swarm outside of what it does best. Thanks for demonstrating it so clearly here. (This is in no way critiquing the other submissions, it’s fun to hear a different type of swarm utility too! But… home sweet home.)

I made a quick edit and got some better low end. Got the project uploaded too, feel free to check it out.

I tend to agree, this is pretty subjective but I don’t find swarm very fun to try to push outside of its bread and butter zone which is one of the reasons I rarely use it.

@ex those drums go hard in that new clip

I just have a different conclusion - I don’t like to push it outside of its bread and butter zone because I love that zone.

Thank you @djst ! I agree that this is Swarm. In the meantime, the Science Lab makes you do things you wouldn’t expect and I think it makes you understand the Machine more.

In this case (the actual Track), if your willing to put the effort and make the Syntakt Polyphonic by using 4 Tracks for Chords, it’s rewarding because you have a full set of Parameters for each Voice of the Chord.

Once again, thanks for the kind words.:heart:

Thank you @merindol ! :pray::heart:

Wow, if it’s the mood of this Track, then my goal is fulfilled. I really like to read what people feels about a Track (not necessarily mine).
