Aye… definitely a lot of potential in this synth. Really liking the sound of the oscillators and filters. Still no word on whether it tracks volt per octave yet… I fear that this demo has nudged it up to a 88.34% chance of me taking the plunge if it does.
There was a substantial discussion on Sonic Talk, including Matths, who works for Stylophone. In sum: Yes to v/oct, won’t be available until later this year, and there’s a Sonic State video coming Friday.
[edit: was trying to save the mods some labor, but can’t get the YouTube Live link to work nice with Discourse so am omitting link]
That is excellent news. I just watched the bit on Sonicstate (helpfully timestamped in the video description) and so will defo be tuning in on Friday to see the fuller (or should that be fulsome) video.
The demo did definitely sound interesting. But something is bothering me, and I think I figured it out.
No VCA means it’s all the same level, no munch, as if it was overly compressed, taking away in expressiveness. That’s fine for pad like sounds, but the demos are all bleepbloop drones.
Maybe I’ll wait for the sonicstate demo.
C/Oct is great
Ok that was the demo I was waiting for. Great playability, many more options then expected, and that in combination with my field kit will be endless fun. It screamed for oscillators, and this screams for external modulators
volt per octave confirmed!
Video includes demo of Bitwig modulating the DS-2 via an Expert Sleepers ES-9
Non modular guy here
My simple question is: could I vary the pitch from i.e. korg sq1?
Ok volt/octave but since korg sq1 sends out cv and gate, which one do I need to vary the pitch on CPM DS2?
thank you
Yes, that was much better, and quite compelling. Might put my name on the list and see how I feel in mid-year. [Edit: since I’m not in the UK, but in the EU, it’s probably pointless to do this.]
Exactly what I thought of. Quantized CV from the SQ-1 into the unit the way Bitwig was used.
I wish, when Nick mused about the filter tracking, that he had just pulled one of the pitch cables and put it into cutoff and cranked the filter into self-resonance. It probably doesn’t track V/oct, but it would be interesting to hear.
Edit: I had a brief fantasy that I could undo those eight screws and pull out the unit and screw in four of my Eurorack modules. But it probably doesn’t work that way, either.
Yeah, if that is possible I would be hyped, there are 2-3 effects units I would buy instantly.
In regards to sq-1: currently teenage engineerings sequencer is somewhat on clearance, have seen it sub 70€, thats probably also an option.
Going to get this. Not sure if it’s just me but after signing up. I’ve had nothing but notifications warning about security and 0hone being compromised.
I’m in the EU too and they seem to be planning to send them worldwide.
It’s not just sending worldwide. Portuguese customs are reputed to hold things up for a long time and be overly zealous about duties and taxes. To avoid that, I would rather have it sent to me from within the EU.
Really hating on this. For the last few years it’s been very nice being part of a small niche group of people who spend their time noodling away with boutique drone boxes. Now everyone is going to be at it
What an incredible thing they’ve built for the price.
Just got to 23mins on the Sonic State demo. Can’t believe we’ve got to wait until “the middle of the year” for this. The hype is going to build. What an outrageously extended tease…
well thats simple, wait till it hits EU shops.
Unless Stylophone has an EU distribution hub, which is possible.
No idea where they are made, possibly UK. But if made in China then they might be shipped from China direct to end user for pre orders.
Edit: just looked it up. Some products made in Britain, some made in China. Fucking Brexit eh?
Sure, that is what I would usually do. But it means that getting on the preorder list may not be very useful for me (or others in Portugal – are other EU countries this bad about imports?).
Same here, loads of spam notifications! I think the website is compromised so be careful
I’m confused, what do you mean? I meant that the sequencer they have (pom-16) is only 59€ and would work great for sequencing and manipulating this little box… And is also battery powered.
It’s not spam, I just meant there would be a great companion for it ^^"
