Oh, right, that is a more compelling reason…!
Just occurred to me that this would be a perfect companion to A4/AK, two 3340 VCO controlled by 2 CV tracks, 2 more CV tracks for other modulations, feed the DS-2 output into A4 input, there it can be gated, effected, filtered etc.
That the first thing that popped into my mind. Insta buy to pair it with the A4 in a minimal setup.
This is an interesting alternative to the Ovum or Krischer drone oscillators.
Excited for @OscillatorSink to get his hands on one

(consider my interest already registered)
Aye, I’m pretty curious about this one also… the sounds in that short video are sounding pretty promising and I’m keen to hear them in more detail. The big question is whether the oscillators track volt per octave… I’ve no idea if them being 3340s means that a given or not. It’s hard to see it not being a hit if they do track.
I’m trying to figure out if this is a gentle hint that we could be getting vids from yourself in the near future or if you’ve just got aspirations to get your hands on it… either way is cool.
Dont want to synth bomb this thread but for the same money you can pick up a Behringer Neutron which does incredible Drones and is really well built.
Behringer Neutron has dual 3340 oscillators,
The analogue solutions colossus uses the 3340.
Does it run on batteries and have a speaker?
Don’t answer that lol.

At this point it’s just that I’ve registered for the preorder (and for the theremin, of course). I’ve done stuff with Stylophone before, and if they want to do so again then that’s cool, but if the preorder comes up before there’s an opportunity then I’ll be buying one regardless. I have a feeling that they won’t need a whole lot of help to shift these honestly (and even less help with the theremin).
Either way, if 2024 turns out to be the year of weird synths like I hope it’s shaping up to be: I’m here for it.
It’s not. It depends on how you set up the circuitry around the exponential control on the 3340. There is also a linear control and they can be used simultaneously, the linear typically used for vibrato.
But it could be v/oct. It is significant though that they don’t explicitly say this.
Well… its 60-80€ more, and is not portable. If somebody doesn’t need the portability, then there would be way more options then the DS-2. But size, analogue, semi modular AND battery powered makes the difference here. And it also has a reverb.
I do think that the neutron looks good for the size and for many people its about as much modular as they need.
But as it stands: not the same. (and some do have a problem with behringer, but thats another topic)
I get the batteries but portability? Really. I cant see anyone going into the forest with one of these. Its great Stylophone(by name only) are back in town but it strikes of hipster as with all the stuff they are releasing.
Personally: yeah.
most of my drone jamming i do in nature or in parks or at the beach in croatia, so having stuff fit into a small backpack (mostly by bike) makes it a huge difference.
I don’t have a huge living space in this flatshare, and since im working, sleeping, etc from my room the creativity often gets stifled and i distracted, so taking an afternoon and going somewhere to do that stuff helps me not get distracted.
Mind you, im only doing that for myself, im not performing, releasing and it has nothing to do with my job. Different people have different requirements. You have people living in farm houses where they have a 20-30 m² studio, and a wall just for their modular, then you have people that havea 15-20m² room where they need to fit their belongings. Then size for gear maters.
(Maybe context: i have a koma Field Kit (another LFO, radio, basic mixer, sensor in for cv (2x), envelop follower) in combination with my phone (for samples, koala). Add an NTS-1 for more effects, and i have a great setup for drone and ambient in the woods by bike.
Ive been stuck in the studio for too long. Yeah i can see the lightweight appeal,
and the fact it’s not made by Behringer…
I’d like to hear some more “beautiful” sounds, less dissonant, more melodic - wonder if it can do that…
I appreciate the purity of this demo, but it didn’t hold my interest. Price point is good, though, and I look forward to hearing what people do with it.
