Stylophone CPM DS-2

This was, I think, the first analog synth I bought.

I haven’t played with mine in a while. I’ve been pretty deep in other hardware, but I pulled it out last night and it was such a joy to just ease right back in to a pleasant little sound bath. I’ve still yet to find something as immediately enjoyable and entrancing as this little box. Really, just the perfect couch synth.

I am very excited about the new filter modules. I’d like to figure out a way to perform a set with them some day.

Fun use case, the last time I busted this out was at a show I was running sound for. I plugged it into the mixer in-between sets, periodically switching up the LFOs to add variety while the next band set up. I don’t know if anyone was as amused as I was about it, I did hear some confused sounds asking about bagpipes.

I’ve just released my new album, Trilogie Du Breq, on Bandcamp.

It’s a trilogy of long-form drone pieces performed on the Stylophone DS-2 and DF-8. The name is a tip of the hat to Éliane Radigue and Dubreq. No other gear has been used on the tracks aside from minimal EQ and compression (in Ableton) for mastering purposes.

I am not normally big on tagging stuff I do with the gear used as I feel the work should stand or fall on its own merit or lack thereof. In this case, however, I think it will give you an idea of what the two boxes can sound like together. You can create a fair bit of variety with the relatively simple controls on hand.

Longtime lurker on this forum, but I wanted to finally join so that I could say thank you to all who contributed to this thread - it certainly helped me understand and better appreciate the capabilities of this particular box. I also thought I would share this photo of my newly racked DS-2, with a 1U row, in case anyone is interested in doing something similar. The Ornament & Crime and dual VCA really open up the standalone possibilities (there is also a passive mult in the upper right hand corner). Added benefit for me is the wooden case, which eliminates the fingerprint magnet plastic that was seriously reducing the enjoyment I had in using the synth (but I realize that is my particular brand of OCD).

fell victim to the possibilities of the cv playground on the live 3 and ordered myself a ds-2 again. ill probably end up getting the filter module too down the line. i miss my lil drone box im excited to zone out again

edit: this was a great idea. barely taken advantage of the cv on the live 3 yet but the effects and speaker are a big enough upgrade to the ds-2 for them to feel like perfect partners.

edit: more sounds! more clicky and zippy and zoppy

This is yet another experiment with the DS-2 - sequenced by the OXI One. Only a little bit of EQ applied all else, delay, reverb, is internal.
