Some more synthy demo sounds on this one:
This one is purely keyboard/modular - no guitar contamination
Modular owners though might want to wait, though, if you’re like me. I don’t like going back and forth between my home and the postal service or shipping company. That’s why I don’t buy just about anything that comes out and then quickly sell if I don’t like it.
I don’t have inside info or anything like that, but i’m thinking about how Strymon released a Eurorack module recently - the Magneto - and can’t help but wonder if there’s a NightSky module under development.
Even though this pedal is one that would make sense as a module, I wouldn’t bet on a eurorack version. I think they’ve released at least 3 or 4 pedals since the magneto came out, so it doesn’t seem like eurorack is a priority.
It’s possible but I had to put the thought out there.
But you do raise a fair point in that if Strymon releases a NightSky module a year from now, whoever bought a pedal now would have gotten a year of use out of it, and at worst just has to make one trip to ship the pedal if they sell it.
It’s nice that this doesn’t really touch the Big Sky, at least to me it doesn’t. Like Volante, they’re kind’ve alternative ideas to timeline and bigsky that compliment rather than supplant those pedals. The NightSky is well beyond what I’m looking for in a reverb pedal, which is a nice feeling for a change where a new product comes along and doesn’t give u instant buyers remorse. Still got my bear hug love for the BigSky
Yeh I was thinking that my bigsky covered everything it could do (not exactly but close enough), until that last video that illustrates the step sequencers capabilities on even the smallest sounds…now I can see just how different they are… And I really like this pedal…It’s like a controlable boss SL20 slicer and Dig and Bluesky in one.
And when I’m home I’m going to hook my bigsky up to my DT midi out to see if I can get multiple parameters to quickly snap into gear “per step” to see what comes out…
The uses re LFOs and sequencing are entirely dependent on how well it syncs with the rest of one’s eclectic setup. I don’t think you’ll pick up a NightSky if what you want is a standard reverb with a bit more flexibility. This is something else. It may or may not offer new sounds and ways of working, but it definitely isn’t a Ventris. I didn’t even see predelay settings amid its copious knob rows.
Again, that’s not necessarily what you need from this pedal. I really would prefer to try it before deciding whether I need one, so I’ll probably wait until after the pandemic. And Strymon never answered my questions about sync when I posed them last week. “Talk to our tech” shouldn’t be the first answer to a question about clock, DAWs, MIDI and USB sync, CV, etc. I was expecting “yes, it can.”
Here’s (another) demo of the Nightsky in an ambient setting. The reverb tag-teamed with Novation Peak and here are the results. Maybe you find it useful:
I haven’t even dug into it deeply, but so far, I really really like it. Bought it especially for the sequencer, which is so far the best thing to try to ‘tame’ my Lyra-8 a bit. But I get lost in the verbs quite quickly, and that’s in a very positive way.
Did anyone buy this?)

I’d like to repeat @evsey : Did anyone buy it yet?
The sequenced seems to make a lot of people raise at least one eyebrow and I wonder, too, how useful it may be? Is it worth the hefty price?
I mainly used with my lyra-8, and I like it, but I spend too little time to make a decent judgement yet. Will play more in the next weeks off.
I’d initially written this off, but my Interest has been piqued again recently. Not sure I’d use it standalone but might pair it with another pedal.
Don’t really want go back down the Pedal rabbit hole, so need to think carefully about the pairing.
I am about to explore those two machines myself next week. How do you like it few months later? I do have H9Max but as that UI being less hands on I picked NighSky for jams. I am still also considering BigSky but any user experience about how Lyra and Nightsky bond together would be appreciated.
Well, I’m building my studio (in my garage) at the moment, so still no time to dive in real deep. But I like the combination with the Lyra so far. I use it mainly with the sequencer function to get so kind of contollable rhythm in the Lyra-drones. But as said, I barely scratched the surface. I also have the H9, but that one I haven’t had time to discover at all. Hope to get back to music instead of building in a week or three.
I don’t have a Nightsky (yet), but I just realised after watching a video using its sequencer that one could use it as an eight-step < sequenced microtonal synth. With tap tempo to start the sequencer as an option. That’s pretty cool.
how did you like the nightsky with the lyra?
Hi everybody, I can’t decide… it’s at least a year that I’m looking for a reverb pedal to put on a stereo aux send on my mixer. I looked at the nightsky previously and didn’t catch my attention but yesterday night I watch some video demo and it’s interesting at least. My first choice is the eventide space for is “can do everything” format and also I’m a fan of their stompbox series (mod, time, pitch)space is the only one missing. I love the ten knobs for fast tweaking, so this strymon can be an alternative to give at my setup a different flavor. How can it perform on standard type of reverbs, more subtle and background stuff?
