I wonder if Perfect Circuit will stock the replacements.
The Octatrack ones are more expensive.
120€ for a full replacement kit for my digits, not even including shipping ![]()
Given they created the issue in the first place, price should be at least 50% of that… My ST just out of warranty started to get sticky, so it doesn’t even take long.
I love my digis but this is not a great handling of the situation.
I have to say, it’s really cool they are selling replacements that don’t have that rubbery texture!
I confirm this works.
just ordered a smooth kit for my DNII, ST and DTII. Was almost buying Resin printed ones from Etsy as I did with my already sold off DT and DN a year ago. cant wait to finally been able to use my gear without cleaning every time after to make sure no oils and fat from my fingers starts the disintegration on the caps anymore xD (I also by decksaver for all my gear so 39€ is fair for me)
I just noticed that there is no button kit for the Digi E25 edition and not even for the OT AE edition…
Weird but this means it will be difficult to keep high the value of the AE editions if the buttons are sticky…
The pictures look like quality replacement buttons. I for one am grateful that Elektron decided to supply these. I’ve got no worries (yet), but I’ll pre-emptively buy a set for each of my machines.
To add: I prefer to keep my Elektrons as original as possible (I’m just like that), if buttons get sticky I’ll try to replace them with the fresh original rubbery ones. But someday that supply may run out when Elektron stops supporting these machines and are introducing the Digitone 6 or whatever…so then at least I already have a smooth button set as a last resort ![]()
I just ordered the new caps, and here they are. They are soft to the touch (but without the sh*tty coating) and are exactly (more or less) the same as the originals. A bit expensive, but let’s see how they hold up without fading. Thank you, @Elektron, for listening to your customers and fixing the issue.
Mind helping us do a sound test, do the click-clack sound just the same ![]()
I’m thinking that’s mostly the switch mechanicals themselves. I have no conclusive info myself, but it should clickety-clack like every Elektron I think ![]()
Oh, that’s even more professionally packaged than I thought!
The buttons sound exactly the same as the originals, since the only thing that changes is the cap, not the switch. The characteristic click-clack is still there.
Oh they’ve done proper packaging now, looks nice. Better than the unlabeled plastic bag I received a few months ago
Yes, I also received that type of packaging when I ordered the original replacement set.
Can you feel the lettering on the new cap, or is the white area pretty much totally flush to the black?
There’s a very slight raised texture in the white area (almost imperceptible). Honestly, I prefer this new type of caps over the original ones.
Yeah it should be a definite improvement. Will be interesting to see how well the black coating holds up over time.
Yes, definitely. We’ll see how long they last before wearing off, though at least they won’t feel sticky.
I’m currently removing the sticky coat from my Octatrack. I tried alcohol on the B button, was not a good idea. Finally I found a good process to make them clean like new : I put them in an ultrasonic cleaner for 180 sec. This make the coating easy to remove with a nail. After removed the coat, I just clean the button with something called “Essence F” in french. This remove glue left by the coating. Except my B button, the other button are very clean and soft. It’s a pleasure to tape onto it
