weird that there is no Tonverk option…i wonder if the buttons are differently coated?

UV coated as I kind of expected, bit of a shame but that’s still much preferable to the rubberised nonsense.

Seems to be a TV cap in that first photo, so maybe just delayed? Or does another machine use that same cap?
Can you elaborate? What is wrong with UV? What could have been a better option?

UV keycaps aren’t especially durable, the thin coating can wear out through use -
Also in my experience they tend to have a rather slick feel that isn’t the nicest, and fingerprints tend to be left on the surface.
Doubleshot PBT would have been the best option, followed by doubleshot ABS. The legends on those will never wear out, and the texturing you can get, particularly on PBT, is usually really nice.
UV keycaps were a common thing on ‘gamer’ keyboards for a long time, and they’ve now mostly been phased out due to consumer awareness of what premium keycaps should be. I think UV caps are cheaper/easier to manufacture, so I kind of get why Elektron would have gone this route, but if you search “doubleshot shine through keycaps” you can see how cheap a full QWERTY set can be.

If this is what will eventually happen then I really don’t understand this decision. I ain’t paying the best part of $100 (once I add shipping) for this to happen. Maddening.

TBF I think not all UV coatings are necessarily the same, some might be more durable than others. But yeah over time given enough use that kind of wear is inevitable. Maybe I’m wrong though and the construction on these new Elektron caps is different to typical keyboard keycaps. I’d probably get a set of those 3D printed caps from etsy before paying that much for those though.

Ah I hadn’t seen anything about that, I did think they looked a bit like UV coated caps from the screenshots. Not surprising if they’re wearing out.
As consumers I think we should definitely be demanding that our premium electronic devices come with premium switches+caps to match.

Man I hate to be negative but $100 for a set of UV keycaps is crazy. Elektron should be sending out free sets to everyone with the defective melted buttons.

its the shipping which is very expensive for some destinations. best is to ask if its possible to get cheaper shipment. some got a way better option after asking
In Canada : 29$ (CA) for 1 or 2 kits.
Seems to be free shipping for 3 kits or more.
No prob for me, of course you can be negative about it. I’ll try, if they will be damaged in a short time, I know what I’ll do. Until then to me is fine, after 5 years also my mba m1 started to lose coat on some keyboard letters, everyday usage, more than 8 hrs per day. Also these should be hard uv coated, if I’m not wrong. Let’s see, to me is fine, 49€ for a DN Keys set plus shipping. I didn’t expect 15/20€ based on the other products/accessories prices.

I added 3 sets into my basket and was $29…
I’m going to wait and see what the consensus is from those who purchase. As it stands currently, non of my buttons have gotten sticky so it’s not an essential purchase for me right now.
But… I don’t know why they didn’t just hard plastic like the MD & MnM & MK1s.
