The same way it’s done on the og DN or the A4? I’m saying that it’s strange to see it omitted in the first place, it’s not like they need to rewrite all the source code for every new machine.

I too would use Multimap if it were available on the DN2.
It would allow for sound-lock behaviour on a single track when using an external sequencer, and easy finger-drumming or drum sequencing when using a keyboard, etc.
It’s on the A4, it’s on the DN…
I see no reason why it was omitted on the DN2. Maybe I’m wrong, but it seems to me that they actually would’ve had to go out of their way to remove it.

Just had a couple of hours with the OG Tone again. For what I’m currently doing with it (harmonically rich drones, soundscapes, atonal bell things) 4 tracks is more than enough. There’s only so much frequencies available 
I’ve said my piece in this thread before about sticking to the OG and I haven’t changed my mind really. The DN2 is no doubt a fantastic upgrade but I don’t need it.

Yes, 4 tracks is plenty, but could do with some features of the DT2 on the OG though : Digitone feature requests! - #3028 by Berkut
I’m feeling a llittle uninspired with my Keys, in the sub-area of programming chonky EBM-style FM basslines. I don’t mind if for pads, noise and less tightly tuned patches, it does what I need to.
Like a lot of gear questions, this is partially a skill issue I’ll be looking into 
Anyone got tips or a good workflow going there, so I’m not thinking of the Digitone 2 or Analog Four mkii to meet those wants?
I don’t have particular tips for you, but I’m curious as to how you think DN2 could help, since the FM engine is identical to DN1, and I can’t see any of the new features helping with your basslines…?
I don’t think that so much, hence seeking a more level-headed response for intentional sound design and not seeking out justifications in the DN2 or A4 best Elektron ever threads

I‘ve come to the realization that I actually don’t like making everything on just one box. Elektron pattern system worlks better for me if drums and melodic elements are split. That means OG DN is enough for me and I will most likely sell my DN2 after I‘ve recorded some tracks I made with it.
What makes me a bit hesitant is that it’s a way better drum machine than OG because it has retrigs and I can use eight tracks (the new machines aren’t such a big draw as I still struggle to make decent drum patches and the drum presets on OG are still my favorite, especially hats, it’s a bit weak on snares for my taste).

I stuck with the original until last weekend. And now I regret having waited. The Digitone 2 is everything I wanted Digitone 1 to be. It’s vastly more useful and enjoyable, albeit just slightly more complex.

Yeah, if you wanted the DN1 to be something more, I can’t think of a good reason not to move up to the DN2.

Other than money. But that’s probably reductive towards the value of the digitone 2 which just happens to incidentally be very expensive.
Certainly, if one elektron product is worth what they’re charging for it at the moment, it’s gotta be tonverk…

I got both, DNI and DN II. Bought the first one right when they came out, still love it dearly. I’ll never sell it, The amount of muscle memory I built with the old one allows me to express myself pretty freely when improvising danceable music from scratch. I won’t throw that freedom away just to recoup a couple hundred quid.
DNII has more tracks and voices, it’s a breeze to program complete compositions on it, but I’m at a point, when using it as a live instrument, it feels a little overwhemlng and less immediate than the predecessor. I value the limitations of DNI as both focusing and inspiring.

I’d still be happy if we keep this thread for posts like this one by @agnetha and use other threads like “Introducing Digitone II” for raving about finally upgrading, like @dave123 just did.

That is a really nice track. Early 90s warp records ambient techno came to my mind instantly. Love the slow build up and the softly growling bass line. You’re excused for using the OT to help out a little.

I saw DN2 for 750 2nd hand, a lot more reasonable in my opinion, but car needs care too, for now i hold on, but its for sure a top synth. Since Mk2 came out Mk1 is my most used synth.
