Standalone Maschine+

Yes, the Maschine+ is much better quality when it comes to knobs. Basically everything else is the same. Of course there’s a metal panel on the top of the Maschine+ as well. I didn’t own a Maschine+ long enough to see if the knobs became loose but the knobs on my MK3 are loose as fuck.

We’re they always loose or became loose?

Became loose. It’s a common issue with the MK3s apparently, and also different knobs have different tightness.

How long into it did you notice the problem?
And I imagine that it’s the pot itself, and replacing the knob wouldn’t help.

I’m asking because I just picked up a Mk 3 in dec. and I want to know what to expect.

I appreciate you!

Maybe a year or so. I’ve had mine for 5 years now. It’s been this way for a long time I know that much. Same issue with the Push 2. None of my other gear has that issue, like my Elektrons.

I believe loopop even made a passing mention of it in his Maschine+ video.

Last question.

Does it impact the functionality?

I know jumping encoders was an issue.

I’m wondering if it was addressed in any way since then.

I’ve never noticed issues. When I had a Maschine+ I noticed the values would kinda wiggle minorly but I think that was more of a software thing but I’ve never had issues with it on the MK3, it’s just weird going from one knob that’s tighter and the next one is super loose.

To be honest though I kinda like the looser feel compared to the tighter.

Oh. That’s interesting. I like the resistance when chopping. It feels more precise, while the fast moving encoders of the 404 lend itself to speed.

I imagine that it will gradually become loose over time, and I will adapt with it.

I’m wondering if it’s the pots themselves that are different on M+ or just the knobs themselves.

I’ve had the M+ since it came out and I use it all the time and it has aged very gracefully :). Regarding the feel of the knob I think I noticed in the begining some different resistance bit if you ask me now, I can’t tell… If it is tighter or loser I can’t really tell and it doesn’t affect me at all. I’ve had occasional jitter but very seldom and i twist the knobs once and it stops jittering.
I actually had another M+ which was newer but sold it and kept the older, just because it just still works and feels like new. You can just see cosmetically that it has been use for a while. Namely on the pads, due to the finger banging and a couple of times where my daughter scratch them with her nails.

If I would be in the market for a Mk3 I would definitely buy a used Mplus. You can find them really cheap and almost unused

So I just checked, going from left to right knobs 1 and 3 are super loose, looser than the 404 MK2. Knobs 7 are 8 are a bit looser but not as bad and the other knobs have a more typical resistance, probably equivalent to an Elektron, maybe a bit tighter.

Thanks for checking.

Off the top, I’m not home to check, but it seems random? Like to change expansions are knob 2. So you would expect that knob to get the most use

Yeah it seems fairly random. Same with the Push 2. I didn’t check but they do have variable resistance across the knobs.

it’s honestly not really a problem and they maybe fixed it if yours isn’t that old? I got mine shortly after it launched. But I’ve never noticed it affecting my accuracy. That said I play a lot of video games so maybe that helps.

Looking for some help, might be going mad. Just picked up a M+ on a decent ‘open box’ deal. Just been delivered. Plugged it all, loaded up some kits and not getting any sound from the line out of the headphones……

The mixer is ‘saying’ there is sound. Tried turning the headphone and line out gain knobs up and the volume…. Nothing at all.

Am I missing something totally obvious, have others had this issue?? Is it just it’s new to me and I’m not doing something??

I’ve restarted several times and updates the OS-all to no avail!! Help!

Check the Settings - Hardware - Output

There you can change the Headphone configuration.

From the manual,

Routes the Line Out L/R to the Phones output. This allows you to listen to the same audio output channel via the line output and headphone
output simultaneously, for example, use this if you want to listen to the main out via speakers and listen to the main out via headphones.

Worse still when I connect it via USB to my SP404 mk2 and select that as the ‘output’ in the audio settings it suddenly work fine…. (With the SP monitoring)

Have I just got a dud here!?!?

Yeah; I’ve done that output is routed to line out + phones but no signal is coming via either.

Isn’t there a setting for internal monitoring on page 2 of the settings? Or in the sampling menu?

Of course I hope not.

So you have no signal at all at the outputs? something doesn’t seem right there.

You obviously tried a factory reset? Also did you try just plugging it in to your Mac via usb and use the plus as an audio interface?
