Sonicware Lofi-12 XT

Here’s something I made with mine.

Everything is sampled to the Lofi 12 and sequenced from the Digitakt. I think that this is probably going to be how I’m going to approach it going forward.

I think the sequencer on the Lofi 12 is fine for sketching things out. But it’s not nearly as easy for me to use as my Digitakt.

I just got one, I was thinking if using an old hardware rack sampler to pair with my Cirklon, but I feel like this makes more sense. How is the sound in comparison to the old emus/akais/yamahas…etc?

I see a lot of mappabale CC’s, and it looks easy to sequence externally. For under $200 used, it seems almost too good…lol. Am, I missing something?

Mono doesn’t bother me, I like to sample in mono anway.

I posted in the wrong area - I got the regular, not the XT. Have to research what the differences are.

I just got my XT. Y’all really helped with that decision. Here’s a little loop I made pairing it with the Zoia: Lofi-12 XT test. Really loving this combo, the Zoia is doing both fx and synth work. I used two patches from the new 5.0 factory presets. The Lofi-12 XT sounds as warm and punchy as everyone claims and it didn’t take long to get comfortable with the workflow. Still trying to workout some file conversion kinks, but overall I’m really digging it. Definitely an upgrade from the Circuit Rhythm…well, besides performance effects and I actually prefer the workflow over the MPC One.

Sounds good. Real crunchy and still got a nice punch to it on the low end.

Thanks for listening! Yeah, I really love the sound of the XT. All samples are 24khz and the drums are using the 12bit mode.

Did the 12 bit mode lose too much information from the sound of your samples? I always thought the way sp-1200 processes samples at 12 bit / 24.06 khz sounded good but maybe that type of effect on a melody isn’t for everybody. Or maybe the sound of this particular 12 bit device doesn’t create the same type of bit reduction using an algorithm (I think this is algorithm based?).

Honestly, I liked the melody with 12bit mode on and off, but I preferred the bit of extra clarity when layered with the distorted drone.

I feel you, sometimes it’s more about separation of the elements as they relate to the composition rather than just the overall grit. Sp1200 filters are responsible for a lot of that so here you just have some additional options. That’s cool, thanks for your input.

Just got my XT. I bought this with the idea of testing out the workflow and returning it if I don’t like it.
So far I’m impressed! I’ve only fiddled with the internal speaker on the couch, but I like it. It’s definitely a less elegant machine than a Digitakt but for my style I feel like it can do more. Also, really nice default sample library.

Can the LoFi-12 XT sequence external gear? I bought one recently but have yet to dig into it. On the subject of sequencing external gear via MIDI I don’t think there’s really anything in the manual or on YouTube to help.

Yes it can. And you can even resample while it’s sequencing it.

Awesome, do you know of any tutorials to help me get my head around it by any chance?

Great, thanks! I missed this one on Jay’s channel. He is the man for tutorials on the LoFi 12 XT.

I got mine yesterday. I liked the Smpltrek but I really like this one. Pattern sequencing instead of clip sequencing with this small screen is a lot nicer and quicker. The two LFO’s, decent amount of effects, P locs, 128 steps. samping is quick and easy.

I bought and sold the Smpltrek a few times, mostly because of the screen but this one works fine with the small screen and I’m having a really good time with it. 20 note polyphony and using it to sequence my modular a bit and with the portability…it’s really cool and I’m using it more than my digitakt.

Lurker posting for the first time because I have this device and people keep mentioning the discord server and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to join it. Does anyone know the link?

Thank you!

How are you finding it compared to the Digitakt when it comes to sequencing external gear?

not that you asked me but it works fine for performance and sequencing on another machine. it has no ‘midi-only’ track concept to let you define and issue CC’s or anything like that, Digitakt’s midi tracks are an actual standalone hardware midi controller/sequencer while the midi sequencing from lofi xt is basically just able to send clock, notes (w/velocity) and program changes. I’m not really sure if you set a parameter lock or just static LFO on the velocity or pitch if that goes to the receiving synth or not, I tend to use it for sequenced patterns and live play other synths that go into its inputs for mixing into the audio interface.

In general Digitakt blows it out of the water for this specific purpose. 12XT is fast and fun to play and can sound pretty good but I wouldn’t use it as a brain.

It does have control over CV curve (exponential, linear, log) so for eurorack with a midi-cv converter it would do that fine using note data, but even then setting trigger time is much easier with Digitakt.
