SOMA Warp Multi-Processing Unit

As somebody said above the pump preset sounds a bit like the sp 303/404 vinyl sim compressor which has only one parameter for the compression setting. Still some people use it as end of chain to give this specific flavor to their tracks. It’s not a useful compressor for all kinds of situations but if you want that sound it delivers. And i appreciate “one knob compressors”. Very limited but fun to use.

All the instruments from Soma i have/had feature unique functions and have a special sound, That’s why i guess it could be nice selection of fx in the Warp that i would prefer over other random multi fx boxes.

I could be wrong though. Maybe the Warp sounds bad and is a useless piece of $#!t. I doubt it but it’s possible.

I don’t think things like this are for people who want to go dawless.

A lot of people have gone back to using computers and DAWs, and gear like this fits nicely with using a DAW.

Hardware manufacturers need to be thinking about catering more towards hybrid setups, and gear like this is probably part of that shift.

For people who are mostly in the box, a little box full of Soma flavours of FX could have a lot of appeal. Has to sound good and different though.

True, the HX Stomp has stopped me from buying many external effects. It is fairly complex in comparison to the Warp, and simplicity is a selling point I guess.

I got my HX Stomp for about £300 second hand - was a bit scuffed and had been gigged - but golly goodness is it a box of wonder.

I mean yes anyone producing and trying to sell something is definitely trying to grab some part of the Market :upside_down_face: Saying that though its not there most original product…

What i overlooked a bit is that every of the 4 parameters has a cv input. I can’t think of other fx boxes that have that on board.
MIdi would be better for me though.

I just got an HX Stomp XL recently and barely have a clue how to use it
The editing software is nice though and it does sound good

Honestly I feel your pain! Took me a year on and off to figure it out. Once it clicks, you’ll be sorted. The quality of the amps and cabs is worth the price of entry, then you get the delay/reverb/modulation stuff as well. Amazing box. And the plugin is excellent. I use the plugin to process drums sometimes.

Anyway, the Warp! The more I hear that Pump preset the more I think this will be a hit with the lo-fi hip-hop guys. It’s so nice.

Part 2 is up. Spatial FX - It does sound nice.

Can imagine my Oxi or Bitwig Control CV outs would have great fun modulating the parameters

Some of these effects look like they would benefit from another couple of controls, especially the granular ones. The micro looper is the standout for me, it sounds really interesting.

I currently have an H90 that can do most of these things, with the added benefit of being able to do two effects at once. It’s program/algorithm/preset structure is dumb and confusing though haha

Sounds soooo good! Must admit I am gassing, every effect i heard so far sounds super inspiring and useful.

As someone that does a lot of sample based sound design, what a fun playground with a SP!

That’s nice, good for some, then I return to my Quadraverb.

Hmm - the first videos effects sound much more compelling than this one, which sounds like a load of fairly generic (if nicely put together) big reverb sounds. I guess the cv control is the sell here - there aren’t many cv-controlled reverbs out there bar the Empress Reverb (I think). But this one definitely not triggering my GAS just yet…

But maybe I’m just drifting away from that Soma thing. Having sold my Lyra and on point of shifting the Cosmos, maybe it’s just a phase I’ve gone through and am out the other side of. Reflecting more on me than the quality of this box. Which will no doubt be excellent, given quite how well Soma put things together.

There’s loads in eurorack and probably plenty of pedals with expression inputs.

I really like the sound of this unit…but now I’m starting to wonder why it had to be such a tank, if it would have been something small between the size of the M8 and the sp-404 I would be trying to figure out a way to get it for some sample mangling resampling action.

Would work nice with the cv outputs of a modern mpc

Because they decided to print the parameters on top instead of adding a display.?

I guess that’s the best case for a screen then, it’s not like it’s not a digital fx box anyway

Industrial tanks is the Soma way!

yes my cosmos doubles as an anti theft device, but still… I need somebody to make a smaller version of an Sp404 fx section and this could have been a great contender
