Software MIDI Patchbay on OS X (MidiPipe)?

I’m still trying to finish my “Modular Studio” (those of you who’ve seen my desk know what I"m talking about).

I was thinking about using a TRS patchbay and wiring the 3 “important” MIDI wires to a TRS plug and then using it to patch MIDI around. I might still do that.

In the meantime I was trying to find a way to quickly route MIDI directly from one MIDI interface to another via software (Sans DAW routing).

I found this useful tool:

http://www.subtlesoft.square7.net/MidiPipe.html

It looks actively cared for and even supports ARM processors already.

It’s freeware with a donation button on the website.

You can setup a bunch of different virtual routings direct from one interface to another and do a lot of different things to the MIDI on the way. Then save the whole thing as a preset. So, different configurations for different setups as needed

Anyway, it looks very useful and I thought I should share.

Here’s a list of the interesting tools to keep you from having to click to the website.

MIDI Pipe is good but I often seem to have problems running it, although the current v1.6.1 seems stable. When I do have problems, I usually turn to MIDI Patchbay:

Yeah, I saw that one too but it only runs on 32bit OS X unfortunately. Which means I’d have to compile it for 64bit and probably change code and stuff.

I haven’t used MidiPipe until now so thanks for the heads up on possible problems. I’ll be careful not to rely on it at first at least.

Does anyone know the Windows 10 equivalent please?

MacOS, available from the App Store for free:

  • MIDIThru
  • midi Patch
  • Milky (does more than just patching, key split, filtering etc)

Available from somewhere else:
MidiPipe (download on their website)

If you ever want to not rely/depend on a computer and get a powerful programmable MIDI box I wholeheartedly recommend the Midihub from Blokas. I really love mine, can be a MIDI router, splitter, filter, has MIDI FX, etc.

Just in case you ever want a dependable standalone piece of gear to do all kind of MIDI-related stuff.
