So... are we gonna talk about André 3000's new album?

ambient music? I’m not familiar with it. Why won’t Mr 3000 play the hits?

I like it a lot. Almost 90 minutes of great ambient music. Reminds me of Jon Hassell.

I love outkast and have been enjoying them since the 90s. Always hoped they’d release another album but have not rushed to listen to this yet, not because of any hate or disappointment, just because it’s obviously not outkast album and something completely different.

Internet is imploding over this and I’ve avoided most of it, again because I can’t be bothered but today is the today I shall check it out. I think my opinion will be i neither love nor hate it but shall see.

Agreed. To me it is more than ambient even, it has the quality and vibe of a shamanic journey, along the lines of what I’ve experienced in ritualised circles with eg mushrooms. It’s super vibey, there’s a good degree of spontaneity that still culminates into a coherent whole which sounds to me like music was playing them rather than the other way around.

I’m thoroughly impressed and love what André 3000 has been saying about this album, his process, learning wind instruments, not rapping etc.

very inspiring.

I wish more artists would do something unexpected like this.

Unless someone sold me this shit as a rap album I can’t see any reason to be mad at it, I like this kind of atmospheric elevator jazz genre, it reminds me of some 70’s / early 80’s experimental shit. More high brow than easy listening, it’s almost like a tame Miles Davis - bitches brew (please don’t flag because that’s the name of the album).

As a guy who’s been trying to teach himself baroque recorder for the last year and a half I think this is pretty cool. Aside from my personal feelings regarding the music, I’m happy for his growth as an artist. If he makes more hip hop I’ll give that a chance too.

That’s where I’m at with this after hearing what’s on offer.

I like what I’ve listened to, very psych jazz in places

But the flute is the part I like least, feels to weakest addition throughout. I could do without it lol

Though maybe I’m subconsciously over analysing it because it’s what everyone is talking about

As a person who always listen to music while working, and mostly ambient for obvious reasons, this music is pretty cool.
I don’t know OutKast that much, first time I see the name Andre3000. Don’t know why the marketing is so strong for an ambient album.
I most likely won’t pay a ticket to see this live, although it could actually be a good experience…
But I enjoy the sound.

The track titles give an indication shrooms just might have played a part here too.

I think it was possibly cactus based, whatever ayahuasca is. He said he had a trip and turned into a panther, whatever that means.

kinda relaxing, but feels a little bit too random for my taste. Random in the sense of i am missing known musical structure. Also 12 min each song could be reduced to 7min for me.

Andre 3k is considered one of the greatest rappers, he is a legend in the comunity, thats why everyone is talking about it. He didnt release any hiphop stuff in ages and now comes out of hibernation with a flute album.

And I thank you for that. Great album! Can’t say that it makes the Andre 3000 any less good though. Different kinds of music really.

hilarious :joy:

I’m lovin it personally. rap & funk and stuff was never my thing, tho I know outkast and thought he was very good at what he did for sure.

I like these flutes, they’re nice :relieved:

yes it is !

I’m always happy when an artist does what he wants without worrying about “upsetting” his audience. even if I don’t like the artistic direction, I’m happy that the person is having fun instead of “working on their career”

I’m happy he’s done what he wanted to do. On track 3 now and it’s decent imo.

I reckon if he’d let himself be pressured into a new Outkast album or something it would have been terrible.

I watched the whole interview by GQ.
The guy is charming. Pretty sane.
I relate to a lot of what he says.
