Skateboarding thread

Like finding a shop is hard anymore for longboards.
Seems Longboard Larry and Loaded are the only long term staples anymore….
I’d love another clutch, but they are just too much of a PITA to buy from or even contact.

Many thanks for the reply. I had never even considered that ‘Travel’ on a board was a thing. Worlds within worlds!

The roads in the UK are terrible and particularly where I live. I’d love to find a safe route that I can start from my front door to give this sport a real try. Cycling, windsurfing and snowboarding has been my world for many years but I don’t get the chance much anymore to do any of them. Pushing around would be ideal if the roads were in better condition. I’ve considered a One Wheel but that’s just more tech to maintain.

I still cannot understand calling skateboarding sport.

Anyway, roads here (australia) are terrible too mate. Have to drive a fair distance to find anything worth skating on. Still, doesnt stop me. Just always have a board in the back of the car, just incase.

Sure its not the same as the old days when I lived in UK and skated everywhere but I enjoy it when I can.

I guess for me it’s the combination of applied skills and physical exertion = sport. Sure it can be hobby/way of life but if I’m getting a sweat on it’s a tick in my Sport Box.

I’m thinking of getting back into skating.
Haven’t done any since my teens so probably a mid life crisis
Need a basic board for re-learning things generally, couple of small skate parks near me and a bunch of urban places that can be used.

As with everything there are a billion pieces of advice about this online but I’d rather trust people who actually do this.
Any recommends? Doesn’t need to be high end as it will probably get trashed!

I went to Black Sheep in Manchester when I had a similar MLC 4 years back. They sorted me out with a build that I’m still using now.

Nice, that’s close to me so I’ll check them out.

I actually wanted to do a trip across the UK, but it was hard to get a visa, so I got a US Visa and chose the Miami-NYC route instead.

More like…how is darts a sport :man_facepalming:t5:

Yeah, I think that was a wise choice. You’d probably still be picking gravel out of your knees after falling in to one of the 1 million potholes that plague our roads.

I really enjoyed this. Reminded me of the vibe of 90s videos I loved and I liked the music a lot

Louie’s part is great, one of my favorite skaters. The new HUF video is also good, and one of my recent favorites is Welcome’s Seance - probably up your alley as well if you haven’t seen it.

I’ve been meaning to watch the huf video, especially after seeing clips like Mason’s fakie hard flip. Thanks for the heads up on the seance. I haven’t seen that one

I’m skating - mostly surfskating, or just traveling around on longboard - I’m nearly fifty, it seems pretty normal to me, and I’m very alarmed by any chat about this being old. I mean, I’m old enough that I might look even more stupid doing it, but I don’t see any physical changes. I’ve taken a few falls, it’s no different now to how it would have been thirty years ago. It hurts, sometimes quite a lot, until it stops. I’m shit at skating now, I’ve always been shit at it, I don’t expect to stop.

I’ve got a longboard arriving tomorrow, probably not the best time of the year to start something new but after reading @alexwasashrimp further up I have been inspired! As I’m not snowboarding much anymore I think this might fill a gap and I can do it straight from my front door.

Pretty cheap to get in to really too.

This Salba mini film that’s a part of Santa Cruz’s 50th celebrations is a pretty good watch if you haven’t seen it…

New Giovanni part is killer! Some absolutely nutty tricks, must’ve put himself in the soty convo (maybe needs to release another 5 parts before the end of the year though )…

Loved this Madars part too. Nicest man in skateboarding and possibly having the most fun. Well worth checking the thing Jenkem did with him recently, also the red bull vids where he travels the world meeting different skaters. The Wes Kremer one is great.

Interest tidbit about silverfish……

I’ve been experimenting with shorter wheelbase loose trucks on my cruiser (Landyachtz Dinghy). I’ve been riding rather tight trucks since I got the Dinghy, and the two biggest differences is that it is way easier to slow down by carving, and my feet get tired faster :stuck_out_tongue:. Since I’m having a hard time learning ollies, I practiced rolling up curbs instead by lifting the front wheels then back wheels, and it’s made my short commutes to and from kindergarten more enjoyable.

What’s your preferred setups for cruising and/or commuting? Longboards or mini cruisers? Drop through or top mount? Loose or tight trucks?
