what if unbeknownst to us the fate of the world hangs in the balance of whether or not Tony Hawk keeps skating, like what if he has to keep skating or the earth’s rotation would stop and only he knows the truth…
I would say he’s handling such a responsibility well
Shit I just cannot watch all those slams…
anyone else enjoying the battle at the berrics? Tyler Peterson is my current fave
Recently watched his HBO doc - never realized the amount of concussions he’s had, and I feel kinda bad for him at this point, it’s like he doesn’t know what he’d do if he didn’t skate anymore, despite his loved ones thinking he’s insane.
These days I’m more inspired by the low-impact over-30 crowd. Thankfully old school seems to be making a come back.
Almost got my kickflip back after three months skating a few times a week. I can do them every time on grass, but rolling on concrete I lose focus I guess. I think it’s largely fear holding me back. It’s been a good time regardless filing in the flatground knowledge gaps. I hadn’t realized as a 20 year old I was doing just about everything regular & BS, and learning all the variations of simple tricks has been super rewarding.
yeah he’s been through a lot but what a life
yes I do! There have been some nice battles already
Hopefully a few people on here made it to the London Calling exhibition and events a few weeks back. But if you missed it there is some talk it may make it to the USA…
Randomly compelled to look up a phrase going around in my head: “Chef boy-am-i-hungry”. Found this …
Trying to get back into long distance pushing. Did 40 km on Monday, what used to be a relaxing ride is now a bit of a challenge. Gotta practice more to get back in shape, but my knees aren’t what they used to be for sure.
I assume you’re using soft urethane wheels for cruising like that. Pushing around without tricks is as enjoyable for me too. Being comfortable weaving through Manhattan traffic are memories I’ll never forget.
Yeah most tricks wouldn’t be possible on this setup even if I wanted to, other than cross step, Peter Pan and the likes. I’m running 85 mm Seismic Speed Vents 78.5/80A split on this board. Used to have 75A ones, covered many thousands of kilometers on those.
Hey, looking for a bit of advice. This sort of skating has always intrigued me but I have zero knowledge. There are so many styles of cruising boards I don’t know what’s good and what isn’t. Would you know of one make and model of complete board that’s in the style of the setup you ride?
Appreciate it if you can.
I’m using what used to be the default setup a few years ago: Pantheon Trip (they have a few different boards focused on LDP), Paris V3 150 mm 50° trucks (ideally you’d want 43/50° split), 85 mm Seismic Speed Vents 78.5/80A split. Not the best setup for pumping, focused just on pushing as far as you can and really good at that. Used to be able to cover 120+ km a day on a similar setup, skated Busan to Seoul, Valencia to Barcelona and Miami to NYC.
Wow! I was seriously into skateboarding in the 80s, and have kept and eye on the sport since, but I had no idea that there was such a thing as long distance skateboarding. This is awesome!
Is this with some sort of support vehicle – i.e. a friend in a car, bringing along food, water, etc? Or is this a purely solo endeavor w/backpack, etc?
Really miss The Broadway Bomb
Purely solo. I used the first generation Deuter Race Exp Air 12+3 backpack, can’t praise it enough. About 6 kg loaded as far as I remember. Here’s my gear list, can look for the photos of it if you’re interested, I should have them somewhere.
I was lucky to meet Adrian Oh on his trip around the world (had no idea I could travel on my board until I met him), he ended up using a baby stroller on the last leg on his trip. But I didn’t sleep or cook outside, so I never needed that much stuff.
There’s plenty of older folk in LD push/pump, as it’s nothing extreme as long as your knees aren’t messed up (mine are), you just keep pushing and pushing. I used to find it easier than cycling (not anymore).
Is there a new place/forum where people go since silverfish died?
I’ve actually been shopping and cleaning up my old boards/trucks/etc to get my fat ass doing something……
I used to be active at r/longboarding and r/longboardingDISTANCE, but that was a while ago, no idea what things are like now.
