Should one wait NAMM before buying anything?

Get a heat mk I for a good price 2ndhand and dont look back.

The resale value will hold up as long as you buy one that has a good price.

I doubt elektron will be introducing a new “mojo box” anytime soon. Everybody is waiting for OB2.0 to get on with their lives after the latest round of updates killed OB1 compatibility.

Speaking of music gear etc, I see it like this: Buying/researching/obsessing/geeking/GASing music gear and making music are two separate hobbies. My advice - Never confuse the two and start thinking one is required for the other.

In LA we just wait for the river to dry off.

Do you work with a DAW or do you want a setup that doesn’t include a pc?
It sounds that you want enhanced your music and not distort it. Have you considered a nice EQ or maybe a compressor? If you do work with a DAW you could use a few good freeware plugins until you know what to buy /or wait for.

The speculations about Elektrons next device, range from wavetables synth over Cenk Action figurines, Eurorack modules, mixer, physical modelling, a flying car designed by Homer Simpson, Analog Keys Mk2, granular/hybrid synth, mixer to Fx units…
(Check out the “What gear would you like to see elektron do next?” thread, and add you dream device if not already listed)

+1000. so true. words of wisdom, words of wisdom.

Yup. Everyday you get to practice and get a better picture at what you want to do then you have the advantage over a new feature.

Usually one iteration to the next isn’t that big of a jump. For example v collection 5 is not that much of a jump from v collection 6. I upgraded from 3 to 6 and I noticed the oscillator DSP and filter DSP sounds way better. That took hours of tweaking the Jupiter v and prophet v plugins for me to instantly play and notice that right away. So when you know your instruments inside and out a slight change will matter. If you are chasing the next big thing and fear missing out then you will always be chasing.

There’s threads out here where there’s new ideas uncovered with the machinedrum which was discontinued in 2016.

Can you imagine all the hidden gems with the current gen of elektron gear? The more I get better at push 2 the harder it is for me to see a push 3 too.

And if Autechure releases their presets on the heat 1…you can flip it for a good price too.

Also when you buy from most people nowadays the gear has low usage and sometimes it’s almost new. Take advantage and save your money.

You are totally right
And it’s hardly about waiting for namm, but waiting for the end of July, almost two months after elektron releases whatever they are announcing at namm. This is when the early adopters who don’t jive with the product will sell theirs on Craigslist and the like.
