Should one wait NAMM before buying anything?

It is also to have a filter, do transitions between patterns, craft sample.

For mastering and mixing (main part) I’m planning to do it within my daw.

Digitakt has been my first box. I used controllers for home production mainly. I loved it.

4 months later I bought the digitone. I never had been more productive in my life. I never had more fun with music. For this I’m incredibly thankful for elektron. And the no computer part is new for me as well, this is so much fun.

I played with a friend once two digitakts one op1 and one digitone. God that was awesome to do this at home.

Learning curve ? I only saw fun. When you look at videos of presentation it looks like it’s a lot to swallow. The learning phase isn’t a pain, it’s fun for me at least.

if youre looking for a fun master effect for making unusual samples and stuff i’ve had my eye on the empress zoia which hasn’t been released yet. I think you probably want something more flexible rather than one of the most expensive distortion units available. its not magic, its a nice unit but I think it sounds a bit like youre not quite sure what you want so go for something more fun

Hi mates, just curious. Lets say, talk about Digitakt. Is it something done creepy in unit or missing that the next hardware version is very likely be released soon, say within 3-6 months?

All my purchases are on hold until the zoia is released.

I would hold off if I were in the market for a synth or drummachine…who knows which company will release what of those. Plus then you’ll see used prices of the "previou"s versions pop up and dedicate the time waiting to the things you have.

But if Elektron is your aim I would be shocked if they released anything before a stable version of OB. The PR nightmare that would ensue…

But for a niche product like the heat, of which they’ve just released an MKII, go for it.

I feel like theres a divide in opinion between the people whose main drive is to create musoc and the people who spend more time GASing and buying things… swapping out equipment all the time and always talking about equipment.

Its like saying i think buying a car will benefit me but i should wait a year and see if anybody brings out a new car before getting one. Makes zero sense in terms of improving your transport but does make sense if youre after something new and shiny to lust for.

Same here, and i just added the OT2, a blast ! And don’t think it’s that difficult to learn… Anyway, to answer the first question, NEVER wait for the future, MAKE it

Now you’re repeating yourself :joy:

That looks suspiciously like a TE product. They must be collaborating!

I wouldn’t wait for something i don’t know anything about besides of the fact that it will be from Elektron.

If you really “need” the heat and you can afford it, i would say go for it. Probably a good time ing, since the Mk2 just came out so you might be able to get a cheaper mk1 unit and save the rest of your money.

If there is new gear on the way, and they would present it at the NAMM 2019 it would still take a few months until you can buy it. If you want a bug free, perfectly working product, add another year.
I was in a similar situation last year. I waited for a Virus ti3, lost all my hope, bought a new Virus ti2 desktop, then at NAMM the Valkyrie was presented. A synth that could be the official successor of the ti2. But i don’t regret anything, because the Valkyrie is still in development. If I would have waited, i wouldn’t be able to make the music i like.

Or waiting for all the water in a river to pass by so that you can cross on dry land.
Life is too short to wait when you have places to go.

  • Making music is allowed while waiting.
  • Planning to buy a gear is allowed. Especially on a gear forum.

You two speak about making music no matter what but you took the time to give some of us a lesson? Much appreciated.

You mean, preparing the next “Overbridge-enabled” Machine for NAMM - this time with OB stated as “In Dev, coming soon” on the Box … just to be safe?! Couldnt resist to spread that salt. Sorry

Actually, there is such a thing. it’s called Strymon - Big Sky :raised_hands:. Just one push on the button and your music becomes a hit, instantly. If you want a top ten hit, raise the decay amount just a little bit.
But don’t tell it anyone, it’s the ultimative secret of the entire music industry!

yes and I am waiting to see what happens with the new gear from MFB and Elektron.

Im not telling anybody what to do at all its just that way of thinking is bizarre for me. I personally come to music forums to inspire and focus myself so while you mock my ‘lesson’ i would argue that it is beneficial to gently remind people that music is the ultimate goal. Its something i like to be reminded of.

Recently I got very inspired for a period and made some music, then i started to get really excited about some new gear and what it could do for my ‘sound’ or whatever. It became an overpowering energy sucker constantly thinking about this equipment/technique that I felt like i couldnt make music properly until i got it… I had to remind myself that above everything making music is what matters and that whatever i have in the moment is always good enough.

Im not saying thats you, in fact im not sure if i really am saying much at all so ill snap back to the point: either you want the functionality of the analog heat or you dont want it… what unknown piece of equipment may materialise in the future literally has no bearing on it.

Thats me, cheers.

If you buy used, you could probably sell the item later for the same price (or more if you are crafty)

Make music, no matter what is indeed the lesson.
