similarly… I recently picked up the G Storm Electro SH-5 VCF module. I bought it specifically because I’m insane and have both a Roland SH-5 and System 100. I was hoping I could just patch in the SH-5 filter to the System 100 and it would basically be the same (intention being: be less insane and sell the SH-5). while the GSE module is fantastic and sounds very much like the original while also adding some much-desired features to that filter, it’s certainly not the same experience as using the real synth. this even while I am patching and playing it with the System 100, which has the same oscillators plus look and feel as the SH-5. then you reach for those puny little eurorack sliders and knobs… yeah, not the same.
that said, I remain quite impressed by the GSE SH-5 module, and will likely pick up their SH-101 variants at some point. even though I have an SH-101. because, again, I’m insane.
Do what you love and what makes you happy! That’s the only thing that matters. Our insanity is our passion! And no, Eurorack is not a replacement for any self-contained instrument — but it has a lot of cool things to offer. The format just plays to different strengths. Bit I am lately a bit Eurorack-tired.
im just here to cry because there was an excellent condition blue 101 for sale locally for $250 from what looked like a real guy and i missed the opportunity. a sad day for me, a good day for my debts.
