SH-101 love

That sounds dope !

Haha, me too! RELEASE THE KRAKEN!
That’s why I streamlined from six sequencers down to the Cirklon. Only my RE-909 v5 is running standalone — it’s just too much fun on its own. It kinda loses the magic when sequenced externally (and the global accent can’t be controlled externally).
But I do send program changes from the Cirklon to switch patterns, so I can use its song mode across all instruments.

The only odd one out right now is the TR-8S. Its MIDI response is terrible, and program change is still f#*%… oh — did I say that ?
Sorry, I meant it’s still a complete mess.
I think I’ll have to downgrade to firmware 2.0 — but then I lose the CR-78 kit. Cruel world !
Oh Roland… Oh Roland…
Hear us… and fix it already.

The origial release had an option for a 303 style sequencer which made it a little awkward I think, but seemed cool to me.

I have the MSW-810s with the 303 sequencer and I really like it. I always wanted a 101 and/or 202 so it has scratched the itch of early Warp records sounds for me, especially through the Quadraverb. I do need to hook it to a CV sequencer that can be incremented per gate, for the 101 sequencing trick.

I’m not terribly comfortable with the 303 sequencer in general which might be the problem lol

Me neither, and I hated it at first but have come to enjoy using it even if I can’t always make it sound how I was thinking, I can make cool grooves with the notes I wanted. Using it with the keystep sequencer makes it kind of like the 101 as well.

:joy: A sequencer with a song mode would definitely reduce the need for tentacles here.

Including drum machines, I’m trying to corral nine sequencers at present. But only half receive PC. And one of them doesn’t much care for it it. And another does not take kindly to being sent PC 0 at all. That said, I’m still pretty tempted to add the SH-01A to the herd :man_shrugging:.

Oh, damnnn. You’ve got a real Sophie’s Choice deal going on there. Well, Roland giveth, and Roland taketh away…

I never upgraded from V2.0
Never had an issue. The features of newer firmwares never appealed. You can load what ever samples you like into it, so CR78 can still be a thing in TR8-S.

Yo Microtribe, how’s it going? Still slamming that Softclipper like it owes you money?
You were exactly who I had in mind when I started thinking about downgrading to 2.0.
Doesn’t look like Roland’s ever gonna fix that mess, huh?

Yeah mate still punching the TR8-S for all its worth. Its a damn fine drum machine.

V2.0 for life.

On topic.

SH101 is still brilliant. Tubutec mod for extra envelope, LFO and midi control over filter. Extended sequencer and arp functions etc etc. I’m wandering if Ed DMX ever updated his SH101 with the tubutec mod.

I decided to pull the trigger on the Softube emulation of the 101 since it’s on sale for $29 at plugin boutique - using my points, it only came out to $22… Seems like it would be a great FPO sound source and then I can replace the soft synth tracks with a real Roland SH come mixtime.

Is the TAL bassline plug in still free? I did use it a few times about 10 years ago, really nice soft synth version.

TAL Bassline is still free though it’s deprecated. TAL Bassline 101 is the new version and, imo, is a great 101 plugin, though it’s the only one I’ve ever used.

I have a real SH101 and also Softube’s Model 82. I love using Softube’s emulation as a substitute when ITB.

I also think Monomono’s Mono One rivals Softube’s Model 82 (Max for Live device). Both sound great IMO.

Yeah, I had the OG SH-101 in my hands many times—first time was around 1989 at my uncle’s place. To this day, I have no idea why he even had one. The man had zero connection to music production… I guess he just liked the idea of strapping it on and living out his inner synth-rock god. :metal:**
These days, I’m pretty happy with the SH-01A—she’s got her strengths and does the job well. But the original is still on my buy list. That said… 2000 bucks for a serviced one with the Tubbutec upgrade? Puhhh… But I need one anyway. For my inner peace. It was the first synth that I had in my hands as a kid. The circle have to be closed.

I do have the Stereoping controller, currently running the TX81Z overlay/firmware. Technically, I could flash it for the Tubbutec SH-101 as well—but those new Tubbutec controllers? Damn, they look slick. And it’s a must for my setup. I need midi.

Ooof!
Though why it has filter control?

Will look it up. Sexshy indeed.

Second added ADSR for only the filter so you can use the OG envelope exklusiv for the VCA. + the same for the second LFO. THe SH101 have than 2x ADSR 2xLFO and with the controller all hands on. +more features. Accent is cool = 303 style.

Yeah I knows , but the controls for the filter are on the Sh101…

Anyway.

Cant say I really use the accent feature. It doesnt sound that good to my ears. Velocity is nice though. I have used midi control of the filter, using OTs LFOs to do tempo synched filter mod.
