SH-101 love

After using all the hardware and software clones and copies (literally all of them), none of them come close to the beauty of the tones on the original.

This synth is amazing
Puts a smile on your face :slightly_smiling_face:

If you’re still undecided, get one while they’re still relatively affordable!
It’s worth it even in poor condition like mine :+1:t3:

Even the Roland Boutique SH-01A?

sh01a is better imo. Hard to tell apart blind, small., portable & has poly mode.

[edit - & it’s components aren’t decade’s old. important one that]

While “better” is relative, I sincerely disagree!

The poly mode didn’t make much sense to me on a synth like this. The Boutique sounds good too, though. But oh boy the original is special

the original is a thing of beauty, no question. one of my all time favorite sounding synths.

Not least the power switch pitch bend :joy:

Ah yes. Read about it. Mine doesn’t have this issue.
Power switches only cost 5€, though!

unless you’re like me and do a shit job of replacing it. then have to send it to a pro. ended up costing a lot more than that. but… it needed a good servicing anyway.

mine didn’t do the pitch bend though, it just failed entirely.

I really want me a superlative sb-1.

I love the idea of the original but I can’t justify that price.

Like no one ever told me I sucked due to my lack of sh101 and I’m poor… like if I was rich I’d get one to wear and one to wash for sure!

The SH-01a is great, people moan about the sliders being small but they are actually about the same as the MC-202, perfectly usable, a good alternative to the original, and sounds ace.

I love my SH-01A, but I would also love to try out the original someday!

the SB01 was $900-1k for early adopters (who’ve been waiting for like two years now). which means it’ll be more money on release. you can get an SH-101 for under $1500 pretty easily. I just counted eight of them on Reverb. three of them were $1200 or less.

point being: if you can afford the SB01, you can likely afford the SH-101.

That’s also a point, but the SB01 looks like night-rider.

I would love to have an original. SH09 as well. Just too afraid of vintage stuff being broken too often.

To be fair, I’ve had new stuff broken quicker than old stuff. :grimacing:
Might be a coincidence:)

the SH09 is a great one as well. you needn’t be scared of it being broken often. get one that’s been serviced recently, or plan to have that done after getting it (but pay less for an unserviced one) and you’ll probably be fine for at least ten years. most of them have been without issues and unserviced for the better part of 40 years now.

just use it often. don’t let it sit. they don’t like that.

Very true.
I have an OG SH101. I use it alot.
Such a great synth, despite being so simple.

I think Tal plug-ins have created an incredibly lovely emulation. One of the very few vst instruments I actually payed for.

Got mine today actually. It replaced the 202

Have the sh01a. The Boutique is ok but nothing like the old machines.
