Anyone using this yet?
I was looking up new and improved ways to futz with samples.
Serato Stems in their Studio software seems incredible.
You can extract, drums, bass, melodies and vocals. Kinda blew my mind.
Definitely trying the demo tomorrow.
Would love to know if anyone else had been using it
The music that remains after a “stem” has been removed sometimes has little artefacts in, or bands of frequencies missing. It’s still better quality than some older systems I’ve used, and it works in real-time which is wonderful.
Good to know.
I definitely wasn’t expecting it to lack artifacts.
It just seems very useful and a lighting fast workflow.
I’m usually mixing samples into many other sounds which keeps it from isolation and hearing the artifacts.
In some cases I like the artifacting.
That was precisely my idea. A simple fast workflow to chop parts of samples.
Not necessarily interested in a daw.
I was looking into Serato Sample and found the Stems thing that comes with Serato Studio.
It seems perfect for what I’m currently after
Sounds like it’ll be a good fit for what you want to do. I’ve been using it past few months. Very quick to chop, the pitch/time stretch is arguably the best available and stems is very cool, though you can get better results with other stem tools the way it’s integrated is awesome. I’m still hoping stems comes to serato sample though. I like the aliasing sounds most the time, ha.
Some pain points… no db levels, only 3 fx on the master, no midi mapping and only certain (few) controllers work, quick to get patterns down but the piano roll isn’t the best and quite limited.
It’s the most fun I’ve had with a new bit of software since getting Live years ago though. Enjoy!
Dj pro on mac has been doing real-time separation for quite a while which sounded reasonable to me … needs a hefty mac
Traktor are working on it… it’s part of their roadmap though I can’t recall if it’s free or part of their subscription. I hope they make an s8 controller mapping as currently most of it is unused ( their stem thing died many years ago )
I’ve been using Traktor for years, but haven’t been keeping up with any software for the last few years.
Nevertheless I’m always looking for ways to effortlessly get more out of sampling music.
I haven’t DJ’d in years, but it’s always something I think about doing again especially since I relocated.
So far the Serato Studio is fantastic.
I’m definitely contemplating wether or not I should get Serato Pro, just studio, maybe a new DVS mixer. I’m still unclear on what features I actually need or not.
Wondering is getting a Serato sanctioned mixer comes with a software license.
I’m guessing just paying the monthly subscription is the best method?
Right now I’m not even sure how the free demo works or what it’s limitations are.
DAMN!
I have t been excited about software in a looooong time.
This is wonderful.
You can record right into Serato and get to chopping.
Makes vinyl rips a breeze.
This opens up a lot of stuff I always wanted to incorporate in a live rig.
Live sampling to DVS and further manipulation.
Jeeeez, can’t wait to get my Octatrack back from repairs, it ON!
I really really really like Serato Studio. I’ve made more full songs with it than any other DAW. A few more features (and more FX slots) and I could probably switch to it full time.
It has SO many useful features, and dead easy.
Just being able to virtually connect it to Ableton is nice.
I’m just starting to put it through it paces and discover all it can and can’t do
I love being able to record vinyl in an instantly use stems, key changing cue points/slices etc.
This is definitely going to be my favorite method for sampling in the Octatrack.
It’s brilliant.
Other audio software companies should take notes from Serato.
