Science Lab Challenge, February 2015

What I learned most is

  1. I never imagined a simple sample could bring all this out, from all those different creative minds.
  2. Be patient in getting to know your machine - experimenting really helps and lets you create sounds you didn’t expect.
  3. Sometimes, less is more. Don’t try to stuff a track with so many different sounds or samples (I tend to do that often). And let the mix breathe a little more.

impressive. some tracks are damn hot. i mean cmon, its from a single sample, and some did an album of it…

here is my fun:

For some reason my brain decided to believe that the deadline was 6pm CET not 1pm. I rushed home to upload my creation only to realise it was too late.

Alas. Woe. Etc.

Had I not missed the deadline my submission would have been:

I have to say I’m amazed by some of the tracks people turned in.
Much inspiration and talented folks around here.

Well my entry was shit and rushed between a few hours spent two days ago and most of last night reworking it. This was also my third attempt in the two week time frame. BUT! This was still fun and frankly I learned more than I thought I would about my Octatrack. I never really understood how to use the comb filter so this had gone unused. But after reading up on it a bit I was able to apply that to a few tracks which resulted in some of the better sounding elements in the song.

I wish I had gone with the Machinedrum since I’m way more skilled with it than the OT but once again this was fun and educational and I am looking forward to the next Science Lab.

Good luck to all who submitted a track!

My attempt - enjoy

that´d be saaad :frowning: i just read “Send it to us latest Feb 27.” and thought till 23:59!
hmmm :frowning:
i send my track at 16:00.
@cenk: olmadi abi yaa :smiley:

What I learned is:

  1. buy an AR
  2. buy an OT
  3. dig deeper in the machines

Since I dont like staring into the computer too much, I collected your posted tracks, as well as I could, in this playlist. Just press play, close your laptop screen and enjoy.

Thanks! Excellent!

One thing i really loved doing in this project was learning how to use the MD to treat samples as FM synthesis as sorts. Was really cool, and you can get really awesome sounds out of it. It was a bit tedious creating chords but tye end result was worth it.

  1. Slide trigs
  2. Parts (although I got confused many times and overwrote settings accidentally)
  3. That I also want Machine Drum UW

Since we are sharing…
here we go!!!

good luck to everyone :+1:

On the AR, I learned that some interesting things can happen when using samples on shared tracks, along with mutes - not quite sure what exactly, but worth investigating further!

The chord thing melted my head for a few hours as well haha, just so many p-locks :sob: copy, paste then tweak a semitone was used a lot…

when will the winner be revealed?

The winners will be announced on Friday the 6th of March.

cool - i am sure we will all be watching for it!
