I love everything from Farbrausch.
Also you guys might like this documentary:
I haven’t watched that. I’ll check it out! Yes, I’m an FR fan as well. (and Haujobb may they rest in peace )
Thinking back to the days when I would pick up C128s and Atari STs at the thrift store, hunt down obscure VDC-required demos and STe-required demos to run on them, complete with all the weird RGB cables to interface with various monitors, never expecting that YouTube would one day make all that hoarded crap unnecessary
I discovered this one bundled on an SD card that came with an Ultrasatan from jookie. Still love it every time I watch & listen to it.
Sublime stuff.
I wasnt in the scene really but my classmates big brother was in some way. I was 12 and he must have been 15-16 and I remember he was so pumped to show me that demo and told me it was total hysteria at the party when they dropped it. He was also a hardcore synthhead and every week he had a selection of cds that I borrowed. Everything Front 242, Laibach, Die Krupps and on. 92 was a very happy formative year for me and shout out to Henrik wherever you are!
I was mainly a demo WATCHER from 86ish on.
My cousin coded a few nice ones on the C64. I should dig them up and post them. He also did a few crack intros for a friend of his.
He and I did make one demo page though together in around 1987/88. We did a logo with raster bars behind it, a parallax bubble field that I drew, and a multi-sprite running man running between the layers. I think we used the Phantom of the Asteroid music for it.
Was pretty fun. I have never been able to code myself (except I did make a pretty bad raster bar in turbo-assembler once on the 64). However, I’m very good at collaborating with someone coding with ideas, proofreading etc. Because I actually understand a lot of code when looking at it, just can never translate that to a project from a blank page. My brain just isn’t wired that way.
Being in the US though, we didn’t really have “proper” demo parties or anything like that. Just a bunch of demo-likers trying to mash things together while hanging out sometimes. I know a lot of coders, but they all have minimal spare time. (like me) so while we’ve put some single effects together, or ASCII DOS-Mode effects for fun, we’ve never made a real production.
Didn’t notice this topic, nice one! Will have to watch through all these. In the meantime, this got me excited to share my faves (sorry if I’m reposting anything)… and oops yeah it’s the same person doing all the tunes
Wanted to post Radient Turqoise by Wrath Designs too, but unfortunately that’s no longer on YT.
Love that Orange demo. I used to watch it over and over!
