Nice! I remember this one. It’s like a mellower version of the Fairlight / CNCD / Orange one I posted in the first post of the thread: Media Error

What’s funny about that one, is there’s a distorted 808 beat about mid-demo right when this sample hits that says “Brilliant!” I kind of ripped it off for a little track I made. (not sampled, but recreated on the Digitakt then turned into a full tune of my own) Here’s the track if you’re interested (Right around 1:38 or so is the part that I borrowed the style of  )

Very true! Never had one myself. My school had them when I was a kid, so I instantly associated them with being boring. I’ve seen some interesting things done on them since of course. And the IIGS had the DOC chip like the Ensoniq SQ-80, so it can’t be all bad.

Nice!

We are the same age!

So in 78/79 or so my parents had the Bally Astrocade. I still remember playing it, and a bit later at my dad’s friend’s house. Between them they got me hooked at those early ages on all things of the sort. My they got VIC20s after that, followed by C64s when those released. Also had 2600s, Intellivisions, etc. I think I was about 5 when we got our 1541 floppy drive. Later on we started all dabbling in PCs in the XT/286 era, had Amigas, and other things.

I’ve since owned just about every significant computer/game system, and for the ones that I didn’t own, I’ve emulated or started using on my MiSTer now.

I’ve been collecting demos since around 1986 or so. But also collecting game ROMs since emulation started picking up in maybe 1995ish or so? When people talk about preservation, I quietly think to myself, not to worry. I have it all.

@J3RK do you know what this track is? I think it’s Matt Gray and I kept it from years ago as it was the music for a Reason keygen

I remember chatting with Matt (I hope!) back years ago and he said it’s ‘fake’ as he made it on a PC tracker and all the PWM stuff is actually double channels of sawtooth detuned.

It’s absolutely my favourite chip tune of all time. Fucking incredible arranging.

Nice! I actually don’t know what it is, but it definitely sounds like Matt Gray! Has a bit of that Last Ninja 2 sort of thing to it with those nice arps. Matt is still active, and releases some cool stuff on YouTube. I’ve talked to him a bit in the comments there before. Really nice guy, and excellent musician. I love that there are bands that play the Central Park LN2 theme live. I’ll see if I can dig those up.

There were a lot of really cool tunes on some of those keygens back in the early 2000s late 1990s. Loved some of the Paradox ones. I kind of forgot about all those

Lovely song! Have not heard it before but agree it sounds like Matt Gray with those long snares and arps. And clearly sampled waves
