Saying good bye to the Octatrack

Had a Mk1, hated it, sold it, end of story.

I gave away an Anniversary as well. I miss it too.

I was a long time user of Octatrack.
I paired it often with mc-707, yes, greeeeaaaaat combo.

But.
If I started to make setups with it i needed to grab a notebook to write done what I wanted to do with it…
Next time I started the machine (I don’t do that every day…) I had to relearn what I have done to it.

It’s great that the Octatrack can do “everything”, but I for myself am looking into more streamlined specialized things. The Octatrack is too mighty for myself. I used Octatrack for years.

They’re not the same category of device at all and it’s really bad that anyone has ever said that they’re somehow alternatives to each other. Glad you realized it’s not what you need.

octatrack isn’t just for christmas

it’s for life

It’s a tool, a good one.
But not always that what one wants

Last week I took my OT out of the closed just because an MPC is not enough

Maybe this time it will click with me because I’m going to use it as a sample mangling instrument rather than a drum machine and a main sequencer for all connected gear.

Dear Elektronauts,

For the last Fing time… Kindly RTFM out of it, before making any life-changing decisions…

It Has No Competition. (At least at the time of writing…)

I have read the manual probably a few times and Merlin’s guide. It is not a life changing decision, its a piece of gear. If it works with your style, great. If not, no point in beating your head with the OT trying to make it work.

I bought the OT a few years ago. Keep it a year and sold it. Bought it again a couple years ago, sold it a year later. I can see why some people like it so much, but the work flow is not for me. I love the Elektron sequencer, but for me OT is too many things crammed into one box. I prefer separates.

I did the same. Bought it twice, learned it a good bit, then sold it each time. Whenever I get the urge to buy it again, which is like every day, I watch a random OT tutorial video to see how many button clicks it takes to get something set up and going. I’m then put off again.

Same experience. Will be posting my OTmk2 Black for sale here soon.

I’m glad to hear that you are trading up for something that might be more your style!

I have spent this year making an Octatrack song once a week - I just hit track #30 and I am REALLY loving how the Octatrack helps me think differently . But I know it’s not for everyone despite rule #73 of the OctaCult, “Force Everyone To Consider Using An Octatrack”

Octatrack is Boss.
It makes all my other machines behave themselves.

If the Octatrack was released as a new product today it would raise a few eyebrows. But isthere anything else?

Owning an OT is like owning a TVR, in as much as you can’t really blame the TVR when you find yourself upside down in a ditch.

Dissatisfaction arises from a lack of skill, not a lack of power.

Octatrack is unique, incomparable, incorrigible.

Had a lot of fun with it! But ultimately moved on.

Past couple of years been recreating my favourite parts of it with software.

I do dream of a MK3 occasionally though

And I thought this conversation was going so well.

Dissatisfaction more often arises from a lack of elegance in the interface and poor organization of features.

What a weird thing to say.
