I got the Octatrack MKII in 2019, spent a lot of time with it, watched most of the videos, read the manual and Merlin’s guide. I would like to think that I got the OT but it never really gelled with me. We just didn’t talk to each other very well. The not-so-great effects really started to bug me and using C and D cue into an outbd rack was kind of a pain.
A while ago I got to use an MPC one and enjoyed it so much that I stopped using the OT. Anyways, I am saying goodbye to the OT because I don’t have GAS anymore and I am going to the local music store and get an MPC 37 because I like keys.
At least you have a local Music Store. More are closed down now.
This reads a litle like facebook posts from the 2010´s where people would post that they were quiting social media…
I mean, you are totally free to not like a product, it doesn´t matter if you have had it for 5 years or for 5 days…
On another note, ive heard MPC 37 is awesome! probably more so now with the MPC 3
dude i feel you - i have struggled many times with OT mk1…just about to take delivery of OT mk2 today so if it lasts five years I will consider it a massive win!! enjoy the music
You say, “Goodbye” and I say, “Hello, hello, hello”
I don’t know why you say, “Goodbye”, I say, “Hello, hello, hello”
Thanks to USPS I ended joining the Decahexatrack club.
A dream to some, a nightmare to me . What are your plans with these two? Why not two MK II?
which means some new user gets a cheaper access to an OT, not the most dire outcome, isn’t it?
For both of you: yourself to go where you want, for the new OT owner to have his/her residency with a new toy.
ps: it took me 3 years until it made finally click how freak-in awesome the OT is for me. Obviously sometime hated it, then gave it another trial, got fluttered how damn easy it is and how over complex i was thinking before. Muscle memory kicked in and voilá i’d never go to live sets without it. I just wish my OT and deluge could huddle over night and make love to have a child, i’d hug it all day just to nourish the opossum-ibilities.
ps2: until then, hope your complains about your personal OT xperiences are settled in the price for the next lucky making the journey. kidding
Yeah the OT is not made for everyone !
And I guess the MPC has an easier entry level, but will not lead to the same results.
But both could be good friends !
The amount of time it take to understand how you can use the OT effectively prevent lots of people to enter it’s realm. And for some people it is definitely not the right tool.
Long story short: I got the mk1 first, great price, best USD to Brazilian real conversion rate in years…but got lost in mail (thanks USPS)…
1… 2 weeks…. 1 month……1 and 1/2 months…. Totally lost in mail. Lost package claim started… USD/BRL rate starts to close, need to move fast but no more mk1 ‘s available…
All right, let’s get an used mk2 with warranty before is too late, claim from lost OT will cover half of its price…
Mk2 arrived…then 1 week after mk1 arrived with a sorry for the inconvenience note… mk1 was lost in Miami USPS office…
Now I have two OT. Thanks USPS.
Maybe I sell 1 in the future, but for now it’s very convenient to have 1 permanently connected to the piano, guitar and bass in one place and the other connected to other synths in another place.
Also, mk1 has some quirky beauty… a different design paradigm, and to be honest, it’s a piece of music history at this point.
Unexpected Second Performance Sampler
ooof what a pain. USPS can be awful sometimes.
using both a mk1 and a mk2 would do my head in. they’re different enough that I’d be lost and frustrated all the time.
master of acronyms.
Yeah, I cannot complain…having two OT feels decadently good.
Their CF cards are mirrored using my pc, so one is a backup and perfect copy of the other…it feels like iCloud or something to go from one to another and all in there to keep working in a idea at a different setup…
I blacked out the DPS-1… but it kind of looks better in grey knobs:
I know what you mean…I’m constantly hitting shortcuts from mk1 on mk2…and there are things on improved accessibility on mk2 that really make a difference and save me from RTFM from time to time.
CF expulsion pin was better on mk1 since is flushed with the Card profile. Mk2 has a small pointing head that is easily caught when transporting it.
Oled screen is better in all aspects, but tiny. Brightness control on mk2 is the key feature.
I prefer the back panel of mk1,
Somehow mk1 feels like it will outlive mk2… it feels like a springy Landrover. Mk2 looks and feels like a fine sports car
When you eject the card fully that head should go back flushed with the machine. I did it a couple of times before getting my forever CF 64 in
Hahaha…yeah, I thought about the removable to permanent mod too. It’s better to have those 64GB looked in than some twisted pins by accident. They should have improved that eject mechanism from mk1 to mk2.
Yes, but it has a tiny pin…let’s say a “very sensible nipple” right on top that gets caught inside backpack during transport.
Man the mk1 looks so dated now!
