What are some samplers with individual analog filters that can be tweaked seperately per track/sample? Not needing a sequencer (I have 3 already), but it’s fine if one is included. Holding anything from 4-8 tracks/samples with individual effects buses. Not needing a multisampler since I already have one. Just something that can trigger single samples, preferably in chromatic mode.
The ones that come to mind are the Elektron Rytm and the Roland TR-1000 though I’m not sure if their filters can be individually tweaked.
I suppose I could just build one as well on a Eurorack since I just need something bare bones.
Nothing really that I can think of - why do the filters need to be analog? They’re your requirements of course but it feels like you’re making the task hard for yourself for what is probably an imperceptible difference.
The two you mention aren’t really what I’d call samplers, theyre drum machines that can sample - but maybe that’s semantics - what are your sampler requirements?
Sample requirements are super minimal. Just something that can record or you can transfer a file to and you can trigger preferrably from the unit.
The filter holy grail would be something like a Jomox Moonwind or an Erica Synths AcidBox III. I suppose I could buy a Behringer Lm Drum and use the individual outs, but that’s a lot of desk space.
I have a Nano Tangerine which I like a lot as far as size and UI but the filters fall just a little shy of good for my taste despite all the options.
I may just go with a single tape loop and a single filter lol. I’m going to see what rack options are available as well.
Dude I have an idea. Get an 8 out sampler and feed it into a Malcom Toft EQ8 .
It’s an 8 channel EQ box but you have an analog low pass and high pass filter you can use in real-time to tweak your samples. It can do subtle and extreme. The only thing missing are resonance for each channel .
Yes they can. Just get the ARMKII, it’s great. No way are you going to be able to build something comparable in Eurorack that isn’t just as expensive and with fewer features.
The Gotharman sold and still sells crazy machines with analog filters, you can even choose how much analog filters you want in your machine and you can choose between different filter types, too. https://gotharman.dk/
Only modern ones are the Prophet X and the Polyvera. The Polyvera is much more of a basic setup but it’s easier to get samples onto and can also sample from the input. And it sounds great. Both are more geared towards synth type work, not really for multitimbral drum machine style setup.
The Alpha Base has not analog filters on all channels and you cannot put you own samples on all channels.
There are also MKSREC1 and ISLA2400, both modern versions of the E-MU SP, which means a mix of dynamic and static filters.
The best modern thing soundwise i know of is the Polyvera but basically only own channel with one sample. Let’s just hope, Stefano’s next project will be a sampler. His taste & approach are killer if you want that fat classic classy sound … and the synth is incredibly good btw.
Prophet X came to mind but it is really big. It’s bitimbral, so two independently controlled set of filters.
There’s other options too like the Behringer Model D which can be rack mount. Four Model D’s and a Tesseract Modular Nutella Tsunami could be something. Though all the above suggestions are worth looking into. The Alpha Base and the Rytm look to be the most compact options
If you’re going to do that then I think what you’re really looking for is modular. You could do it ‘cheaply’ with an ALM Squid Salmple into some Behringer Surges, and if you want to add envelopes grab some System 100 140 dual envelopes. Pop it in a Behringer 104 case with their cheap PSU and you’re getting there. Oh and use something like a Beatstep Pro or a Mutant Brain to run it.
