Roto Control (MIDI controller by Melbourne Instruments)

Thanks, good to know. I’ll have another look tonight.

I would tend to agree but the firmware updates on the mac and I still cannot map 3rd party plugins on Mac. The Ableton plugins work fine.

Also, any idea what the spanner button on the back is for? I assume for a factory reset. Wish I knew how to invoke it so I could start from scratch

Has anyone successfully mapped Rotocontrol to hardware yet? If anyone can give me advice on how to do it, I would be most grateful?
I just tried learning parameters - midi out from RC going to midi in on an old akai sampler, and out from Akai to in on RC, but nothing worked. In the Namm demonstration video , he maps Rotocontrol to an Elektron device by touching each parameter while in RCs midi mode. Are there are other steps to this? This is the first time I’ve dabbled with midi CCs, perhaps I have to find out what the cc numbers are on the Akai first?

This works pretty easily in my experience so may be your machine.
Just to outline process (for me anyway)

You need to setup the MIDI ports as per the post above. Then load the vst and click on the arrow in Ableton to get to config mode for that plugin.

Then, once the parameters you want to learn are showing in the Ableton config window (populated by clicking on them when highlighted green) right click in title bar and “save as default” … as per screenshot a few posts back.

Then hit learn (button) on the roto control ;
The dial should then read “learning “ on the roto control … move a slider in the ableton config screen for that plugin to assign to that dial.

Finally hit learn button again to exit

Lots of post about DAW integration but few about Hardware integration. Any caveats about HW integration?

Not tried yet is all… i bought it mainly for Ableton personally.

That’s where I’d start. Confirm the CC #s by looking up a midi implementation chart, and maybe check the sampler’s manual for any specific midi-related settings you may need to turn on.

(I removed the original video because I made a few mistakes and figured out a couple features)

managed to hardware map my Waldorf M immediately - seems the RC doesn’t play well with vintage hardware. A real shame if that’s the case as its the older gear that lacks knobs

Why do you say that? The M is pretty new/recent I thought, or referencing another device or post

sorry for not being clear, I had been trying to map an old Akai sampler and DP2, but got nowhere. The M immediately worked however.

I’m in the same boat as you - works fine with Ableton stock devices (and differentiates between them/remembers mappings). But it seems to think that all of my 3rd party vsts are the same - so I can’t have custom maps per vst.
I suggest you reach out to their support (that’s what I’ve done - seem to be very helpful and responsive).

Cheers

I’ve now sussed out (with the help of support) how to adjust Haptic feedback for 3rd party plugins in Ableton (as well as Ableton stock plugins)
It’s a simple as opening Ableton, opening the plugin (i…e plugin mode on the roto-control) and then open the Roto-Setup app… you can then set colour / display name / toggle and number of steps… (and name each step - which then shows on the disaply) works really well…
Here’s a screenshot:

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhh why didn’t I think of that. Then again, why not have a manual ready when you release something lol

yeah i felt a bit stupid when I found out after I logged the support call tbh

OK tonight I dug in and re-recorded the earlier video about mapping plugins and showed more stuff I didn’t realize at the time, assigning things like haptics to the knobs and colors to the screen, steps and increments, etc etc etc:

Nice! Mine arrives some time today, so will watch in a bit, thanks for taking the time to demo some stuff for us all.

Got mine yesterday. It seems really nice even though I can’t fully master it yet.

Has anyone tried changing presets and banks in Arturia plugins yet?
